Thread: WARCO WM-250 lathe family and WM16 mill
19/03/2017 18:07:54

Thank you to both of you, that's what I was after as I don't want to make it too low. I'm 5' 8", so I reckon 900mm height is about right, and if it isn't, I can knock up a duck board to stand on.

Hello

I'm after a favour - Please would someone provide the following measurements:

  • Bottom of the chip tray to the centre of the spindle/chuck
  • Bottom of the chip tray to the top of the bedway
  • Bottom of the chip tray to the handle of the manual feed for the saddle (with the handle in the 6pm position)

I want to work out what height a bench will need to be for the lathe I plan to buy (I will be welding a bench, however need to know the dimensions so that I can cut the metal).

Thanks

Ian

Thread: Warco 250V Inverter Drive Lathe
17/03/2017 19:55:27

Thanks all (and thanks John - I do like your straight talking approach )

I've searched extensively on here and found many threads on the non inverter 250V lathe, but not this one.

Is the inverter lathe worth the extra £300? I know inverter motors should produce more torque, but is it much of a difference? And the non inverter lathe now has an 1100W motor, so does that help with the low speed torque?

This is my first lathe, and I don't know what it will eventually be used for, however I have the money to buy either machine, I don't want a smaller machine (I have the space for this lathe), so it's really down to whether the inverter really is worth the money.

Thanks

Ian

Thread: Meddings Pacera Quill Removal
11/01/2017 11:17:38

Hi Simon

Thanks for the detailed response, although having checked my Star Hub, it doesn't have the locking pin going all the way through. I took the hub back to bare metal and it just shows machine marks. Hmm, truly confused now as to how to get the pin out.

Fortunately mine seems to have seen better days - the gears are all in good condition, as is the pinion gear for the Quill, with only a slight bit of wear that can be felt by fingers, however more than acceptable for the age of the machine, and the limited home use it will get from me. And, it's a different Universe compared to the Clarke metal worker it will replace, even with wear. For a start, the quill doesn't rock from side to side like the Clarke does!!

If you do end up scrapping your drill, I'll take the pulleys off your hands (I'll pay for them), as those sort of spares are worth having. And the other parts (gear box housing, levers, etc) I'd be interested in. Let me know if you get rid.

My bearings need replacing, but not surprising.

Thanks

Ian

Hi

I recently purchased a Meddings MF4 Pacera drill and am in the process of stripping it to clean/change bearings. However, I'm stuck at the removal of the quill; I've removed the pulley from the top of the spindle, and the return spring, and the quill is free to move up and down, but I can't get it free from the casing. I believe the issue is the star wheel handle hub/pinion gear shaft the engages with the quill to raise/lower it - I can't for the life of me work out how to remove the star wheel hub so that I can then remove the pinion gear and shaft. Does anyone have the solution?

I think the star wheel hub needs a retaining pin removed from it (it has a pin sticking out of it), but the pin is in a blind hole, and so no way of drifting this out.

Thanks
