I have come across some chain aimed at the model boating market which may be suitable: Caldercraft (www.jotika-ltd.com) produce a "solid link chain 4 links per inch" sold in 1m lengths for £12 (part no. 65432) It appears to be welded, but I have not yet tested its strength. I enquired whether they supplied chain with slightly bigger links - they said no, but could manufacture any size if the minimum order was 200m+ !! I hope this info helps other builders. Thread: Small Number Plate Required For 2" Minnie |
26/10/2017 14:56:37 |
Thank you all for your suggestions - it seems that the term "show plates" applies to these small, illegal number plates. I need a metal plate, so Steamplates looks like the best bet. I intend to put a full-size, legal number plate on the back of my driving trolley, but does anyone know if small traction engines have a legal requirement to display a full-size plate on the front (motor bikes are exempt for example)? A full-size plate on the front of my 2" Minnie would be totally out of proportion!! |

Can anyone tell me where I can obtain a suitable number plate to mount on the funnel of my 2" Minnie? I have just visited a number plate supplier in Wednesbury, Birmingham who I first saw at the Great Dorset Steam Fair a few years ago. They used to supply small-scale metal number plates suitable for road-legal model traction engines of all scales, but are no longer able to do so as they do not conform to current legislation. Any suggestions would be most welcome

Thread: Welded chain suppliers? |

I need to replace the steering chain of my 2" Minnie traction Engine. I need a length of SHORT LINK welded chain and so far have been unable to locate a supplier. I have found some long link chain on Amazon, but not short link. A suitable chain would have about 3-4 links per inch. Any suggestions would be most welcome. |
Thread: Advice Required |

I have recently purchased a 2" Minnie traction engine and need to replace the steering chain with something that looks "scale". I need SHORT-LINK, WELDED chain. Can anyone recommend a supplier? Also, I am looking to purchase a small screw-cutting lathe and a small vertical milling machine for a total budget of around £1,000 - £1,500. Any advice would be most welcome (including those to avoid!).
