has anyone had experience of oxy /propane brazing using hobbyweld oxygen cylinder

I bought this engine on ebay , I have fitted a flywheel and it runs well . Before I modify it can anyone tell me what it is designed for ?

I will check the bearings , the motor starts to smoke without any load on when on the high speed pulley , but works fine on the small drive one .

the motor on my Super 7 overheats when in the high speed range , I have been given a 2 HP motor , I have read that you should not "over motor" a lathe . Whats the problem ? If you are going to get caught up in it a 3/4 HP will do as much damage as a 2 HP won't it , ? or is there some other reason Phil

what happens though if I mill at much lower speeds ?

last time I tried my ST burner it refused to burn properly , The menths was't more that a year old . I gave up and use a gas burner . Maybe the problem is the meths , I will buy some new and try it again

a bit limited by the stud holding the valve chest on , but might be able to open up the drillings to 3.5 mm

its a 2 cylinder traction engine , cylinders 1inch x 2 inch , steam ports are 1/2 inch x I/8 inch . R,S and J engine

I am making an engine , 2 cylinders , 1 inch bore , The plan doesn't give the port to cylinder end drill sizes . Would 2 x 3mm drillings pass enough steam ? Then a rebate into cylinder end 3 x2 mm at each drilling ? not much room for anything bigger

years ago I bought a big American Star lathe from a closing down brewery . I "borrowed " a fork truck form work and removed the bed from the legs and loaded it onto mycar trailer . On the way home I noticed that the view in the mirror was changing . On stopping I saw that the lathe was slipping off the back . It was much too heavy to lift back on but luckily there was a tree on the road side . I reversed into it and pushed the load back onto the trailer and drove slowly home . I often wondered what I would have done if it had come right off !!! Served me for quite a while , I found it was made about 1910 but it had some good features .

I have bought a boiler , the guy told me it had a leak . Unused , it weeps a bit from one of the stays at the front and from a couple pf the tubes at firebox end making access difficult . If I clean it and run 55% 630-660 degrees rod over the tube ends would that be the best way to try to cure it ? PS never tried boiler making !!! its 4 inch dia copper boiler

has anyone any experience of using an optivisor or similar ? I was thinking of a 14inch focal length 1.75 x magnification for working on small parts like tapping 10 BA etc . I wear varifocal specs , but sometimes need a magnifying glass which is tricky if you don't have 3 hands , !

on a similar vain , when I was at work , I started a cement mixer and the handle failed to disengage , I moved sharpish and shouted a warning . It rotated several times before coming off and shot over the yard . It was a big heavy thing , it would certainly do some damage if it hit anyone , luckily it missed but it was a brown trouser moment

can anyone tell me how much to dilute sulphuric acid drain cleaner to make pickle solution . Bottle says 98% , but I cant believe its that concentrated ?

oh Thanks , as simple as that ! I assumed that after you had tested the boiler you wouldn't want to drill holes in it again Showing my ignorance again sorry

Hello . I have taken over a half built 2 inch scale traction engine . The boiler has a 1/8 thick plate soldered where the cylinder will fit . My question is how do I thread the plate to fit the studs with out going right through into the boiler ? None of the plans or books I have read explain that , or am I being stupid and missing something
