Thread: Burnt Bridgeport power feed control board repair query
11/06/2022 21:29:53

Clive Foster I've pm you chap

11/06/2022 19:21:27

Clive Foster hi I had just bought a Bridgeport that was sold with a power feed when I got it home and opened the electrical box I found the circuit board missing. the wiring looks like the pictures and it is a 12-pin connector missing one wire. it also seems to be a 6f power feed. I am interested to see if you still have any used boards left?

Thread: uk acme thread suppler
29/04/2022 22:27:11

michael it was abssac that quoted me £250 they don't stock them they can just custom make it ill email some more people over the weekend and see

29/04/2022 20:32:44

hi, thanks for all replies I've emailed a few different people and it seems £250 is the best price which is more than I'm willing to pay. I'm interested to know some more about changing the handwheels if anyone can recommend a thread or a supplier of good metric hand wheels then I can use any thread I want. i would probably use a metric trapezoidal lead screw if possible.

now failing that I am planning on making the lead screw myself as I see no reason to why I can't and I should save £200 and learn a new skill

27/04/2022 20:45:42

hi guys I'm after a strange one. my old Colchester master seems to use a left-hand acme thread 3/4 x 10tpi. and I don't really want to try and make that so I didn't know if anyone in the UK sold some.

many thanks for any help

Thread: magnetic clutch
24/11/2020 19:58:13

so i will try and keep this as simple as posible but i have a small ish milling machine that i am putting a bigger motor on going from a 1500rmp 1.5 hp 3 phase to a 3000rpm 3hp 3 phase both being driven from an inverter. this isn't too inportnat but it is a facter, basicly as i am making the new shaft for the motor and running the change wheels for difrent speeds i thorght i would put a magnetic clutchon the motor so that i didn't have to shut down the motor when i am checking somthing or changing speeds seemd easy to do but i can't find a good clutch that doesn't cost £100+ i was thiking more like £50. so the question is can anyone point me in the direction of a cheper magnetic clutch or have a good alternertive?

many thanks for your imput

Thread: lathe feed?
23/08/2020 21:04:39

ok thanks for all the help i realy couldn't figuer that out. ill give that feed a go and see how it turns out but now i under stand the maths a bit so many thanks for that. one last thing what would you recomend if it was aluminum and not stee; (same size)

23/08/2020 20:24:32

20mm steel and i was using caebide but i think i would like to try some hss to see if i can get a better finish

23/08/2020 20:15:36

ok i think i see i couldn't see what all the diffrent numbers ment as a metric guy i just assume all the other numbers are some form of saying a inch. i am only trying to machine some steel. but if im understanding it correctly if i have a figuer of 500 rpm and 5 ipm then i would need to set my lathe to 0.01 and for a more normal feed a 500 at 3ipm would be 0.006

23/08/2020 18:56:42

hi so this is a question that might seem realy stuped but for the life of me i can't figuer it out. pritty much i have looked up some feeds and speeds online and for this task it says somthing like 500 rpm and 80 mpm but my issue is i dont know what 80 mpm (meters per minute) is on my lathe. the lathe is a colchester master mk 2 (flat top) it has a threading box on it but it gives my the unites in ether pitch or tip and i can't figuer out how to convert that to a feed.

hopefully that make some sense im realy confused so wording it all is hard.

p.s sorry for any spelling mastakes

Thread: thread cutting
13/05/2017 13:21:58

so in need some help with this please.

my auto feed dose not work so i was going to rig up a motor to the lead screw (the lead screw turns 3 full times to travel 10mm) and the main spindle spins at 380 rpm i didn't know if there is any sort of maths i can do to work out how fast the new lead screw motor needs to spin to cut a thread. Something like a 10mm bar with a 1.5mm pich thread cut into it.

thanks

Thread: Lathe gear setup problem
28/01/2017 13:56:07

28/01/2017 13:52:27

So I think it may be this set of gears at the end of the shaft that are stopping it from moving but I don't know how to get them apart to check and I don't know why the would be the problem

27/01/2017 07:24:12

I've tried and it didn't work the shaft with the gears on dosent move regardless of any gears beeing ingaged

26/01/2017 20:31:10

So I set up all the gear to the box and they seem alright but the gear box is solid i can move it about a corter of a turn and then it locks out I've oild the cleand and oild the gears but this has not worked but I'll leave it overnight and see but I don't know how much oil should be in the box as the gear aren't in the oil as they are should they be summarized in the oil they is also a grees nipple that I'll try.

At the end of the second gear box there is a series of gears that I don't know what they do or if they are the problem as the gear box is pretty simple there is a rod with gears on that's it I know it's not the serlecter levers so what could it be. I've uploaded some more photos of the gear box if someone could help. By the way i tried turn the gears over by hand with nothing corrected to the gears and it didn't move as if it's like a barring sezed but i had it runing the other day so im not sure

25/01/2017 20:08:04

So I moved the bango and the holder with db1 and 2 on but no success the gear seems to ether slip or bined i try everything I could think of but the gear is ether too far away or to close and now the last gear box seems to be binding up as well for something so simple is is so hard to get to work

24/01/2017 19:15:05

So I had a good look and the problem is the gear comes out of mesh between the bango and db1 I got the auto feed working going forwards or to the head stock but when I put it in to go the other way it locks up after doing this a couple of times it then when slip the gear going forwards so I think the problem may be with the mechanics that the bango is on moving and being loss as the gears seem to move up and down under lode I am going to try tittering it all tomorrow but if you have any other ideas it would help I have also uploaded some more photos

24/01/2017 11:36:51

When I say slip gb1 the rest up to that point spin but the gear gb1 spins and didn't mesh with gb2 throwing it out of mesh but the gears fit together so I think they are both 20dp. When I turn it by hand it won't turn with the first gear box not connected so it is me trying to turn like 5 gears and it doesn't turn if that helps

24/01/2017 09:52:59

Here is a link to the picture and I shall try and get more later
