Found this in among the grease and crud at the bottom of my milling machine. Cleaned it up and it looks like some kind of cutting insert, but the only ones I have seen are held in place with a little torx bolt. Anyone know what it is?

Dimensions are roughly 11mm by 9mm

Hello, does anyone have a copy of the early Bridgeport wiring diagram they could share with me please?

My machine is dated 1969, it is the J head with 2 speed motor. The machine is new to me, when I looked inside the electrical panel on the side a couple of the wires are unmarked and hanging disconnected so I'd like to find out where they are meant to go and make sure it's safe before I power it up.

All of the wiring diagrams I can find online are for later 1970s machines with the larger electronics box on the side with the Erskine control unit.

Hello, I'm having a problem with the clutch on my Harrison L5. I've noticed when I disengage it by moving the lever to the left, occasionally the chuck will take an extra second or two to stop rotating. Tonight however the clutch seems to have stuck on permanently - even with the clutch lever fully in the left position, the chuck is still spinning full speed.

I'm thinking I need to reduce the tension on the clutch spring, but I've read my lathe has a brake which should stop the chuck pretty quickly so maybe it's the brake that needs adjusting?

Thanks everyone for your help, I did what hth suggested and used one of the jaws off the chuck as a brake, the chuck popped off no bother

Hello, I'm new to machining in general and have recently purchased my first lathe, a Harrison L5. I'm still getting acquainted with my new machine, but I've got a really basic stupid question.

The lathe came fitted with a 3 jaw chuck which looks like it's been on for years. I'd like to start searching around for a 4 jaw chuck to buy, but first I'd like to unscrew my 3 jaw to see what type of fitting it is, diameter, thread etc.

Here comes the stupid bit, I can't figure out how to lock the lathe to unscrew the chuck. The spindle must have some kind of locking facility, like a grinder has a pin to lock the rotation to unscrew the disc, right? Otherwise what am I turning against?
