I confess to being a little confused. You are after a manual for a Myford VM-F milling machine which, according to lathes.co.uk is remarkably similar, if not identical to a Warco VMC, then you say it was sold as a Warco A2F. Looking for pictures of the latter brings up any number of references but all have the appearance of a Bridgeport clone, both in style and weightiness. If a manual for the Warco VMC will fulfil your requirements, I have such pdf along with the parts manual. PM me with your email address if either or both would be helpful

John

If the VMF was identical to a VMC then I wouldnt be asking for help, they are two very different machines and the info on lathes.co.uk clearly shows that.

The information I have given is correct, it was badged as a MyFord VMF, EME VO-A2F or an early Warco A2F with mechanical gearbox.

This is the machine I am looking for a manual for, thanks for the offer of  VMC manual but Im afraid it is of no use.

Can anyone help me with a manual for this machine, it was also sold as an EME VO- A2F and as a Warco A2F but the earlier version with the attached manual gearbox.

My self act on the X axis has stopped working due to a jam on the table while travelling. I could have sworn it was an obvious shear pin issue as Im sure Ive repaired it once about 7yrs ago but I cant seem to find anything this time around and cant remember how I fixed it last time.

Ive spoken to both Myford and .Lathes.co.uk with no success.

Probably a bit late, but I have just measured my VM-F and can confirm the height at around 182cm (that is the figure given in my manual) and you would need another 12cm above that if you wanted to remove the drawbar vertically. Personally I never have a need to remove the drawbar, and if anyone had one of these machines in a low workshop one could always tilt the head sideways to give more clearance.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Ive sent you a message regarding your VMF manual

Im wondering where is the best place to get them?

I need a few in less common sizes like 14x1 15x1 18x1 as well as 1/2-20 and a few others. There are plenty of places to choose from but I wondered if you guys had a favourite supplier for a particular reason?

Thanks

I have a MS local to me, at present they seem to be the only place that are flexible enough for me to use. They have a wide range of materials and as you all know they will sell you what you need rather than 3m lengths.

When I had my last workshop 15yrs ago I got to know the lads well and I felt they looked after me, off cuts from the shelf were always reasonably priced and usually cheaper than taking a similar cut length from stock. All the staff have changed now and my first impressions are that they are expensive now. I can't get any kind of price list from them as they say everything is calculated by volume, this makes like difficult as I either have to ring each time or sometimes get a shock when the bill arrives.

I dont have a local scrap yard any more that lets me rummage and the only other local steel stockholder doesn't sell in small quantities. Ive checked out eBay but postage costs will surely kill this, or does it?

Can I ask you guys where you find is the best place to source material outside of the scrap metal network?

Michael, the story of the old bull and the young bull springs to mind

Thanks for the feedback so far guys, much appreciated.

On my list imminently are;

R8 ER32 chuck/collets

R8 Keyless drill chuck

R8 flycutter

6" machine vice

If anyone has such that they have been happy with then any links to retailers would be appreciated.

Im setting up a workshop again from literally scratch after being away from the tools for about 15yrs. In the past I had nice gear, a lot of English made stuff, Im sure you all know the quality Im talking about. However, that is all gone now and with a workshop to set up and a few pound in the bank Im really struggling to decide how best to spend it.

Ive recently acquired a Warco GH1330 and Im pleasantly surprised by the quality of work its producing albeit some of the controls etc aren't as nice as the M300 I used to have.

Now Im looking at tooling and although there is plenty out there at very reasonable prices from the likes of Warco, RDG, Chronos etc Im struggling to take the plunge and order anything because I keep thinking it will be rubbish. In truth Im not in a position to kit out my new workshop with the gear I would like unless I wait forever and scour eBay for months maybe years.

Im thinking of things like collets, collet chucks, drill chucks, lathe and mill tooling, mill vices etc - are they good enough to turn out some decent work to sensible tolerances?

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

A nice sunny day here in Northumberland and a new workshop to kit out so life is good.

Ive been out of engineering for around 15yrs after losing my workshop and all its contents due to a relationship breakdown. Now I've rented a new place, I have some money in the bank and things are starting over again.

Sadly back then I had good gear and Im shocked at just how much prices seem to have risen for often very tired old stuff now. I bought myself an almost new Warco GH1330 after looking at far too many tired old Harrisons and Colchesters, so far Im quite impressed with the machine once I set it up properly.

Ive also just picked up a clean Myford VMF but as yet I need to source tooling so can't say what this machine performs like, I expect it will be good enough for my needs though.

Its quite a daunting task when you look at everything I used to have and what it would cost to replace it all but Ive got to start somewhere so here I am
