Thread: Vee belt / Poly Vee belt maximum power
12/10/2016 15:30:11

I know the sizes I need as I am lucky enough to have two tom seniors,

ones a M1 and the other is a Major.

The M1 is running on all original belts

I am taking apart the tom senior major for a clean and freshen up etc etc

As I have the main spindle out of the coloum, I may as well go back to the original V belts from the link belt that some one has fitted

Not wanting to high jack this topic, But I to am interested in a Vbelt for my 2hp motored milling machine,

I have a Tom Senior Major (the major having a 2hp motor)

I have stripped the mill inc the main spindle, so I want to replace the V belt at the same time,

I am wanting to know, Are all V belts made equally ???

Were would I buy a quality V belt for the main spindle ?????

It came with a link type belt and I dont personly like them (dont wish to explain why, I just dont)

Thread: Drill chucks

Very interesting regarding keyless chucks using ball bearings

My milling machine NEEDS a draw bar to both tighten and lossen the morse tapper 2,

the draw bar is knocked to push the morse tapper out of my milling head

Thanks for the replays so far,

AS to the second reply,

I am looking to hold drill bits, I have a ER32 chuck and collets.

I was looking at getting this http://www.rdgtools.co.uk/acatalog/KEY-TYPE-DRILL-CHUCK-5---25MM-CAPACITY--no-arbour--759d.html#SID=192

and its corisponding arbour.

I not sure is I should go keyless or not,

I am guessing most of my drilling WONT be with small size drill bits

Hi Guys

Looking for advise in drill chucks

I have new (to me) tom senior milling machine, it did not come with a drill chuck.

I was wondering what make/quality to go for???

I do have quite a few jacobs drill chucks that come with a myford super 7 that I also own (its not up and running yet)

but the jaws could really do with being replaced and they are all on MT2 knock out arobs, not on a MT2 draw bar arbour that I need,

yes I could buy a new arbor, bont want the hassel of changing them every time, and like I said, the jaws are all prity worn.

so please point me in the write direction for a new drill chuck

I was thinking more on the lines of a 5mm to 25mm for the milling machine.

Hi Ketan

many thanks for your reply,

I have quite a few things on my list of bits I want to buy,

I only live 10 miles away from Chronos (dunstable)

Its always a pain buying a couple of bits from one guy and a couple of bits from some one else only to save some money,

so I was hoping that I could shop my entire order with you guys.

09/04/2016 19:37:54

in the checkout (on there website) it does ask for a code (if you have one )

as title,

if anyone has one they are not using, plz e mail to me

[email protected]

thanks guys

Thread: ER Collet

how would clamping the hex collet block in a 3 jaw chuck work???

22/03/2016 07:45:15

Hope this is ok, but here is the flea bay link to the set,

one thing I did note, it does not specify a tollerance

I have decided to go with ER 40 collets.
Will just suit my needs better.
Am loving the collet block idea.

As to the ER 40 collet.
How does ?90 for a set of 23 sound.

It's from a UK London based flea bay seller

I have the early super 7 WITH OUT saddle feed,

I have yet to use it as I stripped it from day one,

the saddle must get feed when you cut screws no ??????

19/03/2016 14:23:43

Most of the work I intend to do on the mill and Super 7 is classic car related

The Super 7 for me is a little on the small side but it will come in handy for screw cutting as it has the screw cutting gearbox,

I am half way through rebuilding the super 7.

If i can side track for one minute

My super 7 does not have a feed to the saddle

can the screw cutting gear box be used as one or is it nor fine enough???

19/03/2016 10:06:52

some grate replys guys thanks for the time and effort

19/03/2016 09:02:12

Thanks for the responces guys

My Tom Senior has a ISO INT30 taper with a 1/2 draw bar,

I can find this in a chuck form, but NOT sold as a set to inc collets

I do prefure the lathe chuck and backplate idea as you can keep it all true

Ps, sorry for spelling, was born dyslexic

19/03/2016 08:24:48

Hi There

I would like to buy a set of collets for both my Myford super seven and also to use on my tom senior

am I right in thinking ER32 suits the Myford best???

I dont own any collets at present, So I would like a size that suits both mill and lathe

Also any advise on the collet holder for both lathe and mill would not go a miss.

I am not in a rush to buy, so a far easten flea bay purchase is not ruled out

Thread: Tom Senior help/advice
10/03/2016 19:00:39

can any one help me up load photos.

Last time I tried, I ended up posting the link to photobucket,

I would like the photos them self to appear on the forum, not a link.

how would I do this plz

10/03/2016 14:32:57
I agree the knuckle head will limit the working hight.
So I was interested in a packing block.

I can't see a second hand knuckle head being that expensive.

The S type head maybe.

I have seem the tom senior fitted with a bridgeport head. Very nice to.

But I genuinely can't take on any new projects. Hence I would rather buy an original knuckle head and a packing plate for the base of the colum
