Hello all, can you tell if a BT e-mail has been read by the receiver, is there a setting that can be done. Where I worked this could be done on internal e-mails but this was set up by a colleague at the time. Thanks Bob |

Thread: Boat hull formula |

Great replies thanks all. The Maersk ship showing the load line you can just see the top of the bow bulge, how much of the ship hull is in the water in depth, say fifteen feet for example. Looks like a good storm would roll the ship over, as stated light loads on top. Bob |

I have a load of packing carboard from a fridge that was delivered, I am to make the hull out of that and see how much weight it will take for the the correct water line. Bob |

Again thanks for the replies, I can see the differences balsa wood and 16g copper weight and the displacement has been noted with the imput here. I am going to rough make the hull out of cardboard cover with plastic and put the weight of the copper and parts distributed and see what happens. Bob |

Thanks Dave for your interest , I shall weigh the amount the hull will weigh in the morning including engine and boiler water etc, I'm finding this interesting Bob |

Thanks for the replies on this,it seems that a lot more thought is needed as a lot of work could be wasted. Tug .the steam launch looks fantastic, a question when you planked the hull did you rebate the edge for the next plank to fit on. I have no wood working skills so that why I was looking at a metal hull. Bob |

Hello, I have made the engine and near finishing the boiler for the tug boat I am making. I am to start on the hull but would like a formula to see if it will float at the correct line after all the parts are installed. The problem is that I am making the hull out of 16g copper cut into strips and soldering up to 18g steel formers. I have a 1/2 sheet of copper that will never be used and it will be easy to work around the shapes needed. But I worried that after making it with all the parts in will it be to low in the water, is there a formula that can be used to determine this problem .Hull size is 30 inches x 7.6 inches, or will it be to heavy and sink Thanks Bob |
Thread: Pop ups on my Samsung phone |
03/12/2020 13:07:12 |
Thanks all, my phone is a J4 model different way of getting rid of the pop-ups on the S10 but with the advice I've done it ,no more breasts. I shut the phone down for a short time and now the videos are back so hopefully that to is fixed. Bob |

Thanks I will try that out. Another problem is now all my videos will not play only sound, a comment comes up Video Codec not supported, how can I get those back please. Bob |

It must be Android as has been said here as my computer is fine, I have McAfee antivirus on all my devices and this can't stop it. I will just have to put up with it and enjoy breasts instead of a 2mm die. Bob |

Hello all. Please can you help me stop these pop ups coming up on my Samsung phone, Its getting worse with now obscene photos and advertising taking over what web pages I look at. It has become embarrassing if someone is with me when this happens, if I had ever looked at the crap in the past then I could understand stand how this has infected my phone but I'm more interested in a 2mm die than a pair of breasts. Thread: Model tug boat plans |

Thanks all, looking forward to making it, problem is where to float it after its made. Boiler certificate needed if used in public area, how do others get on who make steam models ? not over bothered as its making it is the interest for me. Bob |

Thanks for all the replies. ways of scaling up noted, but I think that a full size plan will be the best way to go as Michael has made a 42 inch hull with out scaling up. Bob |

I've been looking on e-bay for a set of model tug plans and have found one I quite like, as I haven't seen a boat plan before a question I need to ask. With engineering drawings there is no need for or I haven't come across the need to use the drawing as a pattern. The important part of the tug drawing is the shape of the hull but the drawing shows the profiles but not at the scale as the tug, which is 27 inches long and a 8 inch beam. The drawing looks half that size, how do you convert the drawing profile to the full size, is a drawing set needed to double the size. I've made model glider in the past and used the drawing as the pattern for the wings etc. Thanks Bob

Thread: Scroll Saw |
28/11/2020 08:43:36 |
Thanks for the replies. Interesting about the bench hook. I agree that the scroll saw that I've been looking at is on the cheap side. but I got a deal with black Friday and got a1/3rd of a more expensive saw. just had to buy it, and a fridge as well. Thanks Bob |

I've been looking to get a scroll saw for shape cutting on wood and max 18g steel, any recommended scroll saws for around £130 please. As usual there's quite a few out there some better than others, I was going for a band saw but most only take a minimum of 1/4 inch blade but 1/8th blade is needed. I am going to make a boat hull but going for a plan and plank the hull. Thanks Bob

You have done a great job of the boat Bob, if mine comes out as good I will be happy with the that. Bob |

Thanks for the replies, looks like I will go for the sandwich method on the hull, never thought of fiber glass on the outside for strength. Thanks Bob |

Hello all, I've made a 2/3rd scale A A Raymans marine steam engine, started on the boiler and now thinking of the boat hull. I made the engine 2/3 rd scale so it will be the same size as my other steam boat engine, and so can scale up to the same hull. The hull on my steam boat is made out of a solid lump of wood carved out, so was thinking of drawing the shape and profiles out of cardboard as patterns. My question is if I had layers of wood planks under 1/2 inch cut out the rough pattern then glued the planks up, would the finished hull warp after it was finished. I've been looking for a sawn up log on my travels but seems a lot more work involved cutting out the shape. Bob
