I became so disappointed with the poor milling head design of the Uni3 that I decided to use a Uni sl headstock instead. It is mounted on a spare rod of 24mm steel, drilled to fit the Uni3 (to keep the sl bar original) I can now mill steel with relative ease. Dave. |
Thread: Pultra P-Type Lathe drawing of headstock? |

Julia, the dismantling instructions of 17/50 and 17/70 models may help you, but the P type wick is simpler - it is just a short wick in the bearing leading down to a small cavity in the headstock casting, where a small block of felt will help oil retention. Your wicks may be ok, as the volume of retained oil is small.( the rest leaks out- it is not as sealed oil cavity.) Dismantling is fairly simple and obvious and would put your mind at ease. Dave. |

Hi Julia, cannot help with drawing, but your bearings have not spun. When you apply oil, it runs around a channel machined on the inside of the headstock and is drawn onto the spindle by a felt wick from the bottom. If you can find a drawing of a 1750/17770 headstock, dismantling is very similar (apart from thrust bearing) Dave |

Thread: Pultra Headstock help |

Hi, while I do not have the words to go with your image, I do have dismantled headstock in front of me. The sleeve only comes off the shaft in one direction - towards the rear.It is a snug fit, and has a key. To remove shaft, take off the drive pulley and key, then undo rear nut of the front bearing (it will clear the thrust collar) and slide out the shaft complete with collar and front bearing (slacken rear bearing first) The collar can then slide off rearwards. Hope this helps. Dave
