The reservoir can be mounted however you wish but the compressor needs to be kept the right way up to ensure correct lubrication.

A picture shows "use light hydraulic oil" which doesn't help a great deal does it?

A simple needle valve can be used to regulate the gas flow, that is all that is used for plumbers blowtorches etc.

Are you saying that the tacho does not work?

If so, have you tried reversing the poles of the magnet?

Reading a tale from lathes.co.uk there was a fellow who fitted a 1/4hp 1400rpm motor to his Adept, no doubt via countershaft.

A larger motor will only give problems if you get a jam-up when working and the motor can overcome your jam. It might be able to cause more damage because of its extra strength. Perhaps make sure that your belt drive runs somewhat slack so that it can slip if it needs to.

I haven't used these do can't comment but would an abrasive wheel be better than a brush?

If you google " hilda rotary brushes " you will get an idea of the range. Dremel do them also but I could only find in the USA.
