Thread: Mystery Pocket Roundlet Tool |
14/09/2020 17:18:34 |
Hi All, Hidden in the bottom of a box of mediocre bits and bobs was this little gem: Beautifully made with makers marks of BAYLISS at both ends, much nicer than the more common plated brass roundlet tool sets. I can only find vague references to BAYLISS in the bicycle world but nothing else. The little pointer has me stumped, looks like a clock hand. The screwdriver bit is detachable so maybe there were more tips at some point? Any thoughts most welcome! Cheers, Martin |

Thread: Computer Disaster! Help needed! |
26/08/2020 18:57:41 |
Hi All, Back up and running with all new Windows 10 system. Trouble was something to do with Outlook 2013 which had been flaky for a while. This had somehow corrupted something on the HDD stopping a full start up. The actual computer showed up as 100% OK on testing. Took just over 5hours to sort out and a medium pile of £10 notes for his trouble! Worth every penny, all files were back as they should be and now my printer even prints remotely which it never did before! Many thanks to all for the great help on this. Regards, Martin |

Noel, original desktop background image was a photo of mine, this comes up briefly before going to the green scree as explained in opening post. My neighbours son who is a MicroSoft software guy is taking a look at it for me this evening, lucky he is visiting for a few days! will update what happens. Cheers, Martin |

Stueee, problem is I cannot see anything on the screen even if I get one of those. The blurb on that item says Windows 7 & earlier only? Pete R, power light is still white, always has been, tiny little thing! Frances IOM, will try that and get back, Martin |

Hi All, Was working away yesterday quite happily when a dialog came up saying Windows detected a problem and needs to restart Saved my document and restarted, took longer than usual to get the Dell logo with the marching ants, then the windows multicoloured screen, clicked this and got my picture with the PIN field, entered my PIN number. Nothing happened for a while then the Windows colour screen again, then my picture but no PIN field, this happened a couple mote times then the WELCOME and marching ants. At last the background photo came up but with NO ICONS. This stayed up for about 5-10 seconds then just a green screen with my cursor, nothing else at all. I have repeated this many times and tried booting holding down SHIFT & F8 but to no avail. it is only when this happens that one realises how dependent one is on the damn thing! Any help or ideas would be so appreciated please Cheers, Martin |

Hi DC31k, The auction was mine! Drainpipe? Could you mean the outdoor brolly in the cntre of the table? The rule is pretty distinctive in all our listings! Cheers, Martin |

Hi all, This is part of an auction lot of inspection instruments and tooling from last week. I know that Carl Mahr make precision micrometers etc but have no idea what this might be? Is it some sort of Go/No Go gauge perhaps? If so, probably of no use to me apart from the steel! The two parts seem to be fixed together in the frame? Any info much apprediated. Regards, Martin |

Hi All, Managed to knock this up out of the scrap box and copying the picture from the previous link. Doesn't look too bad in situ, just waiting for some drive belt to arrive from EBay Cheers, martin |

Hi All, Spent today outside under the sun brolly fixing the seized up and filthy little watchmakers hand lathe that I got at Cheddar Car Boot Sale on Sunday along with a Wolf Jahn Cased watchmakers lathe. Came up not too badly, the little work holders on the faceplate are really lovely bits of engineering in themselves. Seems to be missing the front tool rest or fitment, not sure what that would look like? Cheers, Martin |
