dia of profile

11/05/2016 14:18:08

Hello all, I am trying to cut a thread on my myford super 7. I know the profile should be 60deg as in top dia, no matter what I do I get a flat sided profile (bottom dia). I have tool ground to 60 deg, topslide set at 30 deg (also tried 25, 27, 29, 35, 40 all same result) tool at 90 deg to work. Any ideas why it cuts this flat sided thread??? I have used more than one 60 deg tool, same results.

Thanks Andrew for your help, from my manual I have this dia' but cant work out where the pin will go, does the retaining plug need to be removed? Or does the allen headed screw under the spindle (marked allen key on my photo) have to be removed ie is it in the place marked 4 on this drawing??

I am about to remove the headstock spindle & have read that the wick lubricating the spindle needs to be held with a pin. Does the wick sit behind this grub screw & does the pin enter the wick after taking out this allen key?

I am about to remove the bull wheel/gear from my newly aquired super 7. The bull wheel has a crack so needs replacing. The original manual has a paragraph on its removal. But I anticipate it will not be a 5 min job. Has anyone got any hints/tips on how to do it?

Regards DW.

Thank you all for your time, makes sense as when I look closely the woodruff key has a taper at either end so if put at the ends it would not contact the key. Off now to carry on cleaning setting it up. Regards Dave
