Thread: Carbide tips for parting-off |

Thanks for that, but unfortunately their inserts start at 2.1 mm and I have the blade for 1,6 mm. Damn! The back toolpost I use steals an idea from L.C. Mason. a solid block is held down by a through bolt which also clamps a plate to hold the blade down on two eccentric discs which have a slight taper to hold the blade towards the block, and adjust it to centre height. No need for angles, they are all in the insert. Cutting fluid helps, but can generally be done without. Keeping a constant feed is important if cutting material that work hardens, As I've found out! |

Anyone have a source for KYOCERA TKN 1.6 parting-off inserts ? Or if you are using them, be willing to part with a couple? Or be interested to share in buying a box of ten? At my age I'd have lots left for my heirs! Anyone interested in easy parting-off, I can show how to make a cheap back toolpost, the cost of the blade is reasonable, but tips are about $150 a box of ten& my source will no longer break a box. They work beautifully in small lathe, unless you let stainless work-harden as I did! |

Refer to Rolls Royce work at end of WWII. Around 27 litres of it would have been something. Problems with oiling/cooling and superseded by jets. Ray Fairfield |
