Thread: What did you do today (2015) |
21/02/2015 11:33:14 |
finished building a tapping fixture. got small drill press from someone as it struggled to drill anything over 4mm in wood. binned the motor, boxed pulley's for other projects. kept quill and wind down handle binned top 2 bearing's and adaptor to fit pulley to quill. made collar to replace bearing's and new top sect for handles. checked it with square and all is good. best of all got my 7 yr old boy out helping me let him drill top pce for handles pulled down bit hard and hole went through at angle but doesn't affect anything. |

hopefully this link will work. it is article on jig i want to make. sorry its taking while to reply on nights these two days and can't always get on comp at work during night.
got shock on price for set of 3 good quality taps but would rather buy quality and have them for life. to many bad times with using cheap taps that work have bought. |

if it is hardened how difficult would it be to soften it? its only to use for alignment when drilling the cranks. |
19/02/2015 00:29:30 |
It is centre section I need doing. Will cut it with grinder on Fri and see if hardened all way. |

might need help machining a bike crank square. am building a special tapole style trike for my 7 yr old boy, and need to make a drilling jig for shortening crank arms. not sure if i will be able to hold tapered square end safely in lathe to square of other end. if i can't will anyone be able to help in exchange for beer tokens or services repayed? am in wf 15 but pce is no bigger than 2" long by about 3/4" rd so could send it. am still new to machining all my stuff as been welding / mechanical.
many thanks

cheers for that ended up using spray bottle as it was going everywhere using pump. |

what is best way to cool job whilst boring? have to make 2" long collar from 40mm rd with 27mm hole bored in centre. lot of length is in chuck as using off cut. first time i have any proper boring only done small shallow hole before.

Thread: tapping fixture |

great cheers. was chucked as seriously underpowered struggles putting 4mm hole in 3/8 ply. you could stop it by holding chuck. |
07/02/2015 08:30:12 |
got an old drill press that was being thrown out as useless. got no power at all from motor prob wouldn't beat an egg. way to small for anything i would need anyway so was thinking of making tapping fixture with it. chuck is already removed and on arbor for use on lathe to hold centre drill's. was thinking of removing quill swapping bearings and turning new shaft to fit with tap holder on bottom and handle on top. in my head seem's to simple so am i missing something?
cheers |
