Ye Gods John,

You have tidied up since my first visit.

Geoff :so where did you go Antwerp or Dublin?

Nope, nowhere exotic, only a mile to my local town centre & back.

Geoff - it's feels good to walk - sometimes.

Jesse,

Green I am not, much that is.

Reminds me of an RSME club member who had every room of his bungalow filled with machines of some sort, including an industrial riveter.

Now that machine made the whole neighbourhood shake, and he upset a few nearby using it at night.

Geoff - Just given the Dobbie a thrashing to clear the DPF with hope.

Thanks for the comments, smartarse ones as well wink Had a good laugh.

The seat does not unscrew thank goodness, or I would have landed on the floor many a time.

Sometimes I need a good kick up the kasaust pipe to make me think again, and Niko did just that!

For some unknown reason I rejected his idea when I first thought of making it higher, without even looking to see how easy/difficult is was to do as he suggested.

I've just unscrewed one of the castors, and they are threaded M10, so suitable spacers of large diameter will be easy.

Len,

I only use it at the Workbench, never when using the machines. Your mishap made me wince.

Geoff - Thank you Niko!

26/02/2015 14:44:05

Very comfortable with its tractor style bum rest, but too low to work at the Workbench.

Height adjustment is only 1.1/2"

Cannot find any easy means to take it apart in order to extend the lower steel tube that houses the plastic nut that takes the plastic screw.

The distance that the screw is in the tube with the seat at its highest is 4.1/2", so it would be possible to cut the tube and weld a piece in.

Suggestions please.

'Workshop chair' Album added.

JS,

Would love to ask the 'engineer'/'designer' who thought that kink would work, to proove it.

Form over function appears to be the norm of late, as with the curved iPad sides and the angst that causes trying to get the connector plugged in.

'Our' Jony is brilliant, but form over function appears to have taken hold as the case with the iPad 3 on.

Geoff - Busy tidying the 'Office' so no Workshop time sad

Martin,

KEEP IT!

I'm with CoalBurner, I don't use my Boxford very often either, but when I do I don't regret the space it takes up.

Flat surfaces are just that, and without any machining marks whatsoever.

Next thing to make on it will be a few Dickson QC S/T2 tool holders, but need to source the material first.

Recovering from baby sitting yesterday.

Can't believe it but I actually finished the Knurling tool yesterday!

Now, when I say finished, that usually means 99.90% or thereabouts.

Just need to sort out the graduations on the Clamping Nut and a way to stamp numbers on and make washers for the spring to rest against. As can be seen one side has slipped into the slot, top as well.

Hemingway Knurling Kit

What a pleasure it was using 'old iron' to machine the Pivot Arms.

Using that slab cutter on the TS, to mill both arms at the same time, was a revelation.

Hemingway Knurling Kit

Slight 'oh bother, moment soon rectified my drilling and tapping two larger holes for the clamp bar.

I'm not 'Peter Perfect'.

New Album added.

When I first arrived back in Blighty 15°C was frigging cold, BUT I've now been assimilated.

So . . . .

It's short sleeves, but not quite shorts Sir John.

Geoff - Off day today due to treatment.

16/02/2015 10:44:30

Just been into the Workshop to turn heating on and found I had forgotten to turn the oil radiator type off when I finished at 2120h on Saturday.

It has red 'ON' indication lights to boot, so no excuse. Cannot think of one.

Geoff - It's 15°C in there.

Does anyone have any news on how he is doing?.

If so they have made contact, please pass on my best wishes for a speedy recovery from whatever is ailing him.

It's been some while since he last posted.

Geoff - Hope I'm not putting my foot in it.

I like your attitude Neil!

"They" the experts said I couldn't fit 6J rims on my 105E, and that lowering the car by 2" wouldn't work.

Well, I did both without a problem, but had to hack a lump off of the tops of the rear bump stops.

The car looked GOOD, and always attracted attention.

Geoff - Ignorence IS bliss on occasion.

Hi Geoff,

I used bronze pins, IIRC

Neil

Don't have any bronze suitable, so will see how long the silver steel lasts.

They are easy to make.

Thinking out loud - drill holes axially then cross for lubrication?

Making things more complicated as usual dont know

Geoff - Finish it today with luck

Neil,

Now that caught my attention and made me sit up!

Surprising what you can achieve with ignorance at times.

Alan's suggestion would have been mine as well.

I think I would have tried the 3-jaw, slow speed so as not to shake everything to bits, just to see what happened devil

Geoff - Hard hat on.

Nearly finished the knurling tool, but what is the consensus with regards hardening the pins that the knurls run on.

I certainly won't be knurling day in day out, so wonder how long they will last if I don't so so.

Thoughts please.

Geoff - I will finish the FeedRodMotor soon with luck.

If you are using iOS, download the SwiftKey keyboard App as it fixes the problem.

Mike Young,

Thanks for the offer.

Should of added Bill's name to my last post of thanks, for his idea of drilling the rim opposite the break.

The consensus appears to be leaning towards the TIG solution.

Geoff - GD told me to "shudup" after telling her to do so whilst I was using the Marlow surprise smiley

08/02/2015 12:29:19

Thanks for the suggestions.

The handle is aluminium

Will have a think before I dive in.

Can't see myself casting one, as I last did any in the '70/80s, and don't have the facilities now.

John's & Peter's suggestions looks to be within my capability, but I do need to experiment with those Ali rods first, as I know that Sod's Law is just waiting its opportunity to strike.

Have had an offer to TIG the gap, so that's top of list when I chicken out trying myself.

Searched high & low last night for my Engineers Clamps I knew I had, and joy oh joy found them, so can now continue making the knurling tool. Just had a thought - must check what size it will do.

Geoff - Sidelined once again.
