Came not quite a broken home but lived with me granny most of the time....St John's Wood...

She took me to Regents Park Canal and London Zoo......

my best memeory was my friend and I got Red Rover tickets....2,6d...good for 1 days travel...

they allowed travel on the Red buses, were they AEC's ?....and the London Underground....boiled egg butties....

lunch on the Circle line then back to the Museums.....

fav being the Nat History....

mostly horrible times with the odd great day....

if you care to look at the aftermarket truck/lorry (an old word now) they have LED bulbs at 24v -36v plus which will suit you....just need a bulb holder but the are very cheap.....

prob a headlamp bulb will suit the job.....

I just wish " Men in Sheds " ruled the world.....

I often looked thru the door of Crossley's Diesels in Manchester.....

huge engines and all crankcases were fabricated from plate.....

then I worked at a company that odered something similar to the above but a complicated hollow sphere

about 5m in diameter from cast steel....walls about 50-60mm thick..they were poured in Norway.....

I have never used a jig in my life, now 71.....

gotta say tho with failing eye sight below 1/8th is getting difficult...

thought about it for my Bridgeport but was quoted around the £400 mark so gave up.....

a lot need a good 12-24 volt supply......

then heard a few Chinese copies have had probs......

so I'm commited to the mechanical gearbox that came with the machine.....

now got it working perf....so not gonna bother....

the piano serve's a storage unit...in deferance to the ex......hahaha....

personally I'd stick with steel......a lot of modern machines now use St/Steel but I guess thay will stress fracture over time.....

the best, long lasting deck we're the cast ally ones made and fitted by HONDA.....

I have one that must be over 25 years old.....

I repair mowers or used to.....

a lot of modern decks use a high carbon steel sheet, thats so the accountants can save 2p and use less metal....

they are absolute rubbish.....they crack easily and seem to rot quicker.....and diff to repair prop....

I found that over time it was better to use nut's and bolts to attach repair panels in the high stress areas, it was the only way to avoid another stress crack......I made mounting brackets that got welded to patches from mild steel...these also got bolted....

at least with the old ones u can go the mad max route like Neil.....hahaha...

most of the mowers I repaired were the ride on sort and in France they are roughly 50% more to buy than the UK....

I used to buy em new when on offer in the UK and sell em on in the spring.....

Oh and just for info a new average ride on mower deck for a Honda was around €1600 plus tax....so they were def worth repairing....a lot of other manufacturers didn't have new decks in the parts list.....

for future ref....

cut the top off a 5 gall drum and drop the big bits in.....after a week or so the Diesel will have worked it's magic.....

have used this method on rusted up n seized tractor engines....but then it's a 45 gallon drum.....

doesn't have to be full, just cover the parts and put some kinda lid on.....

works for me.....

that will be quite useful when fin.....

provided it hasn't been dropped on the floor or got wet I'd say u'd be just fine...

best bet, stand to one side and turn it on.....IT IS BOLTED DOWN>....?

if it vibrates badly change the stones.....

is it noisy, bearings.....? often the grease gets hard.....

try it and lets un know.....

unless u pay loads, modern grinders are rubbish...yes they do the job ....JUST...

when, not if I drop something, I look for a short while, then get the broom out, then get the wife out.....

she normaly find the stuff /thing I dropped and now as I'm getting older MISSPLACED......hahaha....

getting used to putting the tools away where they should be and anything else in buckets....

trouble is the shed is full of buckets....hahaha.....

it'd be nice to see the photo's.....

I'd be a bit worried about stripping it down....surely useing fresh clock oil will grad flush out the oil u used and also be wet enough to ease the cleaning of the old oil stains.....perhaps a small brush with a drop of white spirit will also help......??

I have a 1914 speedo for an Indian motorcyle I'm building.....it works but wonder if it could do with a service......

cant tell u the cost of it in case the wife reads this.....but they wanted another $800 to get it cleaned and serviced/rebuilt by a specialist before it was shipped over........just couldn't hide all that money......hahaha....

gave up with the fingerprint thingy...

was told by Apple products because of my job the skin patterns are changing..always cuts n tears.....

plus grime....hahaha....

we have "protect my bubble insurance" they just replaced my old iPad for a new one because SWMBO dropped it on a tiled floor.....it's the only claim we've had....

no idea on cost tho....prob excessive as per most ins......

be first to look at the adds, everyday....ebay and the like offer a service where as soon as one comes up for sale they send notification......I used it when looking for DB wood lathe.....they're as rare as hens teeth.....so it does work....

Ask all and sundry if anyone hears of anything......

they do come up, promice.....

and whilst ur waiting fix the path, u'll be so pleased u did when ur Bridgeport finally arrives.....

another good source of machinery is old car clubs......I have a good few mates that do have such equipment......it's not just moddeler's.....

I've even seen stuff turn up in a skip at the scrap yard.....if funds dont allow u have to think outside the box.....

and as for moving said machine about it's not that expensive.....

I paid £150 for a Wadkin RS wood lathe and components from N, Lancs to Peterborough.....door to door

and that weigh'd in at 1/2 ton I guess.....two Euro pallets worth.....the pallets were a 10'ner each....
