I had a CO about 6 or 7 years ago and it was pants. The centers didn't line up and the had to provide a centering device in order to set the machine true. Hopefully they have improved it now. The Sheerline is out of my price range unfortunately. As it is I need to sell a couple of my 3D printers to finance the project. |

Hi, I am thinking of getting a little Peatol lathe for playing about on in the house, I have an old airing cupboard which will house one nicely. Are Peatol Machine Tools still trading? I have been tying to make contact for a couple of weeks but no answer to phone or email. Are there another UK outlets? All the best, Nick... |

Quite a few people have had problems getting castings from the only supplier of these that I know so depends who your "chap" is but you may want to search this and other forums for threads about them. Ok, thanks I will look in to it. I didn't mention the name as not sure about promoting commercial suppliers. |

Looks like it should be about 3" dia or a little less so it does not get stuck in there. Are you going to risk buying a set of castings or fabricate? Hi, I was going to buy a set fo castings from a chap in the midlands. What is the risk in using castings? It would be far easier for someone of my limited experience to use castings. I was thinking of lifting the foundation ring and drain plug by 3/8" and shortening the firebox pro rata to accomodate the grate. Many thanks for your reply, Nick. |

Hi, I am about to pull the trigger on the 2 inch scale Dairy Engine but before I d I need a little advice. According to the drawings it would be impossible to fit the grate, which is 3 3/4 inches in diameter, into a space only 3 5/32 diameter. the written notes say the grate sits on top of the boiler feet but I cannot see how. If anyone has built one of these little engines, some guidance would be well received, or in fact any advice at all would be most helpful. I have attached the relevant parts of the drawing... Hi, I have read the last few posts and to my mind, building the indexer from scratch, so to speak, has been a fun and interesting experience, I learn't a bit about Arduinos, I learn't a bit about programming and about stepper motors, drivers etc. It didn't work as expected, but with a little research on t'internet and some help from the good folks on this forum, it now works a treat and I can cut the gears for my Aermotor build. I would not have enjoyed the experience any where near as much had I just bought one. For those of us who are new to black magic, (ie the mysterious world of digital machinery) constructing such a device is educational and satisfying when it all falls into place and does as it should. Minor failures are part and parcel of our hobby, as, at the end of the day, hobby it is, and it can be as much or as little as we want it to be. So for those that shy away from electronics, have a go, you will be surprised, for those that don't, buy a ready made unit, or keep the brain cells excercised and carry on with indexing plates...... |

Thread: Arduino Rotary Table MEW 249 |

Well I grafted the stepper on to my Sorba rotary table and was most disapointed. Table turns painfully slowly. When I go for 4 divisions the table only moves a tiny portion og the required division, and 45 degrees moves 10 degrees. See video https://youtu.be/yrPmzaC1mMo |
11/02/2017 17:07:31 |
Now that all seems to be working correctly I am a little confused. When I program in a number of steps, say 4 whenratio is set to 9 :1, the shaft spins a number of times to arrive at division 1. When the button is pressed for division 2, again, the shaft spins a number of times before stopping, but, not at 90 degrees to where division 1 was. I was expecting the shaft to spin as it does, but was expecting it to land 90 degrees on. I am hoping this is due to the ratio and will come right once grafted on to rotary table. I am going to add a 1:1 ratio as a test, as every division should then be equal. |

I think I have cracked it! Altered microstepping to 1 ans put both microstepping dip switches to off. Set ratio to 90 to 1 and set 1 step. Display reported 18000 steps/div, which corresponds to magazine article. I will no doubt find out for cure once motor is grafted on to rotary table. Many thanks Andrew.... |

Many thanks, I will have to get a magnifying glass as I cannot see the dip switch chart printed on the board. Stepper motor did not seem to work at first, but after copying switch positions from article I got where I am now. I couldn't make out the positions of the three black switches so made a guess... |

I paid ?850 for my example about 2 years ago. A near perfect example and never used by the look and feel of it. It came with a brand new Tessla motor and controller, a nicely made Westbury machine vice ans a Westbury boring head, also unused or had very little use. It is a hard working little machine that does everything I want it to. It seems to be somewhere between a Mk1 and a Mk2, with the fine feed on the left but having the larger sized table. Very pleased with it, a capable little mill. It was bought from Myfords of Mytholmroyd.... Edited By Nick Clarke 2 on 09/02/2017 05:48:00 Edited By Nick Clarke 2 on 09/02/2017 05:49:26 |

Hi. I have built my indexer but I am getting weird results. Everything runs, the arduino is able to select all modes, all the keys do as they should but the stepper motor ( nema 23 ) runs very slowly and I am getting 72000 steps per rev, with ratio set 9 to 1. According to MEW article I should be getting 18000 steps per rev. Where have I gone wrong? I am using Gary Liming's code ver 2.3. Any help would be well recieved.... |

Hello Jason, many thanks. Now, next question, how do I remove/edit a post?

Hi, a question for admin, haw can I merge two accounts? I lost my hotmail account through hackers a while back now and changed my email, I also have a model boats account, when I tried to change model engineer email to my current one, it would not allow me to do so, saying that email is in use by another person, I logged in with my MB details, and now seem to have 2 accounts. Many thanks in advance, Nick. |
