Quite right Kwil

I am just beginning to realise how out of touch I am, never been near a CNC mc. I remember fiddling with a pillar drill with 6 chucks (like a capstan) and actuated pneumatically and run by punch papertape!!!! It was so unreliable that you spent more time setting and adjusting it than doing the job. The guv threw it out.

Digital caliper on the cross slide for £10 . This is a Meldrew moment for me "I do not believe it"

Will do some digging

Cheers

Hi Kwil, great album, though I struggle to understand some of the smart things you are doing just from the photos. Presumably you have posted description of what you are doing elsewhere on the board but I cant access them?

Perhaps you could post some links

I dont quite follow what you have done with the Myford divider on pix 6?

Thread: Rotary encoder

Hi ALL

In the same vein as my last post (thought it would be better as a separate thread). Has anyone used a rotary encoder on a rotary table to index work (instead of a dividing plate assy. These can offer up to 7,200 pulses per rev - 0.05 deg. Seems to good to be true, and a lot cheaper than a full blown dividing head

Hi All

I was amazed to see what advanced kit is available affordably for the hobbyist and I am intrigued at the possibilities offered by Digital Readout kit that can be fitted to a Myford ml7. Does anyone have any experience with these, are they reliable? You can get a single y axis for £35 that can read better than half thou for example

The question in my mind is whether they are reliable, Do they lose track or mis count the pulses, are fragile, temperemental (like its owner)? Are these cheap ones just friction wheels on a ruler - liable to slip?

You can also pay £400 for a full blown x y system with remote readout and optical etched strip or a magnetic strip which is better. Can I trust a magnetic strip with my Eclipse DTI?

Hi all

I though I was being thick, but it seems to me that Myford stopped developing the Diving head and so never made a milling arbor kit to suit, they don't even suggest what to do. I will opt for the between centres arbor and backplate system. Collets (er25 adaptor £100, collects £145) is a bit steep for me.

Ive never cut a gear this way before, but ive hobbed a few in my time.

PS Rob

How do you find the Trileva shown in your photo?

Cheers keep turning

Hi Myford people

Ive just acquired the above Myford dividng head, what precision! But I am puzzled as to what arbor attachment to use. Ive searched around Myford with no obvious answer. The head has two fixed centres and is obvious intended to use a between-centres arbor with spacing collars and clamping nut. But the nose is the usual 1 1/8 12 tpi Myford to fit a Myford chuck which could then clamp the arbor, but there is not much room and photos Ive seen show a 3ins backplate and maybe a carrier, but I cant find this offer for sale anywhere? So maybe Im barking up the wrong tree. Anyone know how it is done?

Cheers

Robin
