Thread: Os Gemini twin glow engine - conrod req'd - no longer made |

O.k. here is the latest on these rods. below shows the progress And.... all finished You may want to polish the crankshaft mick to ensure a good running surface, also double check the diameter before I post them back to you and let me know, should be a nominal 10mm or 9.98ish. Oh and also don't forget to torque the big ends down to the correct setting, which is 0.35nm cheers Dean |

So here's a quick photo update to show the comparison of the OS Gemini rod to one from my latest Supercharged two stroke V8 project So anyone know the torque settings for an m2 big end bolt or perhaps the torque setting for the 0/80 bolt used on my V8 rods, I generally just use the torque setting of T.E. but not the F.T or E.F.T. and I've found that using the tightening instructions of " tighten till it shears and back off half a turn " doesn't really go to well either. i'm fairly certain that foot pounds and inch pounds torque on either of these bolts would result in the sheared off torque setting and that would be a bit of a waste of time. so anyone got any bright idea's. LOL (i'm kidding of course, no-one torques small model engine bolts, you don't have the same distortion when machining as in full size practice, well nothing that's actually measurable anyway.) cheers Dean

HaHa, well they are in fact fairly big compared to what I normally make, I'll post a photo showing your rods compared to some for the engines I'm currently building. cheers Dean |

OK so on with the show................... outside profiling under way next its onto radiusing the little end and the outside flanges of the big end, although as I have a few other conrods to get to this stage before taking the machine vise off it may be a few days before more swarf is made from these blanks. Cheers for now Dean |

Thanks, although I am still trying to get the time to run it up again as I have made and fitted a new set of carb barrels and also Refitted the toothed belt blower drive with a slightly different drive speed so it will be interesting to see how they affect the running, If it runs at all that is Cheers Dean |

Well as far as vid's go, apart from the previously posted ones there's nothing new to show. engines above aren't quite finished yet but, rest assured, as soon as I get my A into G and finish some of them the filming will start, not my backside this time either lol. Well let me start with an apology to anyone left hanging from my last post to those of you have have just flatly fallen asleep from boredom waiting for another update. I have been somewhat sidetracked with this project with trying to catch up with some previously started projects that have been left wallowing in despair at the back of the shop. Photos below show the causes for the delays. I should have the V12 running again in the next couple of weeks. Cheers for now Dean |

Hi mick, I would recommend building an matched pair of rods from 7075 t6 aluminium if you want to use the engine much. This is what I use in all my engines that require a split big engine. Balance isn't an issue as the weight is the same for both sides. If you get stuck send me a pm and a sample I'll build you a pair. Cheers Dean |

OK so thought I should probably post again just in case anyone was thinking I'd given up? No? ok so I have now made a new set of carb barrels and am just now charging up the batteries to test run it again this weekend. I will post the results as soon as I have some, good or not so good. cheers Dean |

HAPPY NEW YEAR too everyone, just letting you know I haven't really forgotten this thread, but somebody has been suggesting that the gardens need a tidy up so guess that means no shed time for a bit. might need to reconsider that option, see how we go. will get right back onto it soon Dean |

Just a quick update to let you know I am still working my way through a bunch of mods and alterations to get this engine running properly, low vacuum and poor fuel draw are the main issues and i have reduced the blower drive to compensate for over boosting, (I think, not sure just yet but trying out different things to see. make 1 change at a time Dean). cheers for now Dean |

LOL yeah top quality lucas starter right there mate, I think it must have been thinking you were still there coz it didn't play ball after you left either., have done the wiring mod to the glow driver and the starter leads. I am planning to get the fuel rail sorted this week, yeah right I can here you from here mate LOL cheers Dean |
19/12/2016 02:15:48 |
Hey Michael, yeah fairly certain the tea and bickies just ain't gunna cut it mate. definitely was large quantities of the Kentucky variety. lol........ so having thought about it for a bit it seems to me that the fuel system just isn't delivering enough fuel, when I was turning it over on the starter it was running but not enough to keep itself going, but inject some fuel into the carbs and the bloody thing damn near left the bench, until it ran out of prime. If I stick my finger over the trumpet it almost gets sucked into the blower so definitely got plenty of suck happening now. If I get no joy with a much larger fuel rail then I'll try making new barrels with a slightly smaller diameter in them and taper the hole up to the jet outlet. Oh and of course Fix the damn starter!!! LOL Cheers for now Dean Edited By dean clarke 2 on 19/12/2016 02:17:25 |

LOL, probably just as well coz I can't get the damn thing to run now!!!! Wondering if I shouldn't just give up????................. except I'm far to stubborn for that.. Disappointed dean
