Thread: Restoring - Polishing levers, handwheels & slides etc
14/08/2012 12:21:04

Cheers everyone for your advice, it certainly gives me a lot of options to consider. My father did suggest getting them chromed.

I must admit, I like the idea of the buffing wheel and compound, even if it's to broaden my 'skills'. If that doesn't work, I can always consider the other options.

Thanks again to everyone, Mike

Cheers everyone, I've got loads of options to consider now. My father did suggest going to get them chromed. I must admit, I would like to have a go at the polishing wheel and compound, if nothing more than to 'extend' my new skills. If I'm not happy with these, I can then consider the other options.

I'm in the process of starting to restore an old Myford ML7. I've stripped the tailstock and cleaned all the parts in paraffin, now I want to try and make the levers, handwheels etc look nice and shinny like new.

I also want to polish up the slides and other bits to look new.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Thread: Drip Tray Myford ML7 - Fabrication
06/07/2012 19:01:20

Brilliant, thanks so much for that Kwil, exactly what I was after and thank you for taking the time to measure it for me.

Hi Chris, I tried to ring Myford the other day (and ask some other questions), but apparently their technician wasn't back until next week I believe.

Thanks again.

Thanks guys, I wasn't expecting such quick replies.

Sid - I must admit, that was what we were contemplating, however I must also admit that by the time I finish restoring the Myford (see I'm already thinking positively), it will hopefully be nice and shiny...and well, I just thought that even if I can't stretch to a Myford drip try...it will at least look like one. Sounds silly I know, but I've seen those amazing photos of restored Myfords and I thought 'that's what I want'. So I have an image of what I want it to turn out like, hence why I want to try and replicate the Myford tray.

Phil & Chris - I would really appreciate that. I have no access to a Myford and I'm new to all this, so I can't get any measurements from anyone else. I did see an article in MEW, but as usual didn't take a note of the issue for when I wanted to get back to it!!! However I have now found it again (issue 160,' installing a Myford' p34). It looks to me like the 5 sides of the tray bed at one end are made up of 45deg angles with the edges also behind bent up at 45deg. I live in Chertsey, Surrey.

Oldmetaller - that sounds good, alas I live down here in the South. Fortunately we have a large sheet of steel that came from a table at a engineering firm that my brother worked at when it closed down when everything went to China.

Thanks again to everyone for your help, it is really appreciated.

kind regards Mike

Hi

I'm just in the process of restoring a 1957 Myford ML7. It doesn't have a drip tray, but my father has a large suitable sheet of steel that would be ideal to use to fabricate our own one.

Does anyone have a cutting 'pattern', or measurements of the Myford drip tray in order to make our own? and does anyone know of any article published on the internet that shows one being constructed.

any help would be gratefully appreciated.
