Hi Neil. all I can tell you is its from Machine mart. Came with 3 burners 12, 14, and 17 mm running on propane at max pressure with largest burner. I don't think it's heat, as when I did the other end of the boiler we even put an Oxy torch on it, Again everything was cleaned with wire wool. And took over an hour to do 4" boiler dia. same thing, It just didn't want to run. That's why I changed the flux to Tenacity No 5 in case I was burning the flux out. Even the tenacity made no difference. The next time I have a go, I'm going to wrap the boiler in a fire blanket. Just to make sure it's not. A heat problem. Regards Dave |

Hi Gentlemen . thanks for all the advise, I've now cleaned everything up again, but this time I'm going wrap the boiler up in a fire blanket ( meant to have done that the last time but forgot, memory's not what it was lol) I'm pretty sure there was enough heat but the blanket can't do any harm. regards dave |

Hi Gentleman I'm trying to solder a 4" copper boiler. the boiler is 13 gauge and the end plater is 3 mm. the problem is the solder will not run, yes i know what you are going to say, NOT ENOUGH HEAT. and that silver soldering is easy. I agree it is easy if you can do it. But my question is.... am i better using a big burner on the gun, or would i be better with a smaller size burner ? I'm using Tenacity No5 flux and Brazetec 5507 solder ( 55% ) copper, zinc, tin.. the flux goes clear but the solder just will not run. Yes everything is clean, pickled, washed and wire wool used to shine it up.. Any suggestions please regards Dave. |

Hi all. the Mill is working great now, thanks to Gray. But, can't help thinking. That if the prongs of the tuning fork had hit Gray in the temple, it could possibly of killed him. So apart from being a crap design it's very dangerous . The depth stop on the m/c is also made out of cast. That broke as well, with very little pressure on it. thanks again Gray. best regards Dave |

Hi. i seem to recall. Not so long ago, they said there was enough coal in the ground to last at least 150 yrs, and they are thinking of re opening some of the pits that's were closed. I think they were in the Notts Area. Best regards. Dave |

Thread: Top slide problem |

Hi Guys. Here's an update to my problem. having tried a lot of the things suggested with only a little improvement, and still convinced it was down to the Gibs. A member of the forum contacted me to offer advice, this entailed pinning the gib, still no better. So I sent a picture to him. He then very kindly offered to have a look at the lathe for me.. the lathe was taken down to him for inspection. Later I was told it would never work as it was. Leave it with me, I'll sort it for you, it's no good as it is. So it was left. Well. When the lathe was stripped down just about everything had to be machined . The bed was out, the saddle, had machined on the slant both ways as was the cross slide. Plus new Gibs had to be made as the new ones I'd taken down were the wrong angle and not thick enough. I can't thank this member enough as the lathe is now great. Sorry I've not given his name, but he knows who he is and I don't think he wants to be loaded with machines to repair. Without members like this, where would we be. Very many thanks G. best regards Dave. |

Well. Considering the number of you that listen to R4 perhaps we should tell the BBC of their followers in MEW and ME perhaps they might put some engineering programmes on either telly or radio you never know But don't hold you breath waiting for it lol best regards Dave |
