Hello, i have had all sorts of these gadgets. Electric ones which light up, wigglers the ones that come in sets with things you can not work how to use, a simple piece round bar 6mm diameter which i use with a 2 thou feeler gauge, and a wobbler the best of all.

You set the head rotating and move it slowly up to the work piece until it runs true then going a little further makes it run off to one side. Bingo your on the edge by a know distance. I am lucky i do have DRO's on my milling machine which makes things easy.

Wow, some big reactions on this thread. I thought one up man ship had been banned in an earlier thread. Maybe i got it wrong?

My sympathies to those that got hurt, but if your going to stand so close, if it all goes pear shaped then your gonna get hurt! Bit like winter car rallies lets get close to the action and boom 1-1.5 tons hits you at any sort of speed. Ouch!!

I do about 26k on the roads each year and it mad without having clowns trying to out do each other at some disorganised meet.. Bring back the 1970's when roads were not full of petrol heads and roads were quiet.

Looking forwards to retirement and flying everywhere.

I have all the options. Hard grinding soft disks flap wheels and rotary wire brushes etc

I think its one of the universal tools that is used today with caution.

Erm very dangerous. Glued together disks revolving at high speed with humans in control 💥

I have been known to get fingers in the way. Worst event was it grabbing my boiler suit and wrapping it up to a stall with very fast action. I was not damaged but did learn from the experience

I could not get home quick enough from school to catch up on how it was going. It was a fascinating time for me trying to get a grip of the enormity of it all.

I have now finished fitting and piping the steam header that i made. Its a lot better looking than the old 16mm square one that the engine came with.

Thats a great idea. However I would not change my wick burner in my Roundhouse loco though. I know that the burner runs out of meths before the water level becomes unsafe in the boiler.

If anybody has a go at fitting one to an old Mamod i would also advise caution as i think some of there brass boilers are soft soldered and the above would apply even more.

Hi. Atex rated glands will do the job. They have o rings on the gland threads and seal to be safe on the cable. You have to machine cut the holes in whatever your fitting them into so its a tolleranced fit

I had a fault a few weeks ago with mine and i have to say Warco was very responsive and helpful.

Just buy the part and fit it, never mind making one.

Hello Peter.

I was was directed to the modelemgineering clearing house website ( http://modeleng.proboards.com) when I had specific model loco questions. There seem to be a bigger following for locomotives on that web site.

At the time the direction annoyed me as the LBSC locos were published in Model engineer. I hope I do not annoy you in the direction pointed.

I get them. Usually from suppliers of the software. One in the Peak district has a very aggressive selling strategy and will not take me off there mailing list which is bloody annoying.

FYI it it about 8k for a single station in the first year. So it must be a good money spinner for them. After that it drops to a lower figure per annum.

For business’s they offer there own finance as other lenders will not put money up against it due to there being no tangible assets if you go bump. So in my mind they are on a good thing 🤑🤑
