OK. I bottled it! Having taken a serious look at the two cross slides and comparing one with the other, I soon came to realise that there was very little difference between the two, dimension-wise. I therefore determined that I could safely mill the slots into the original casting without significantly weakening its structure. Since fitting the asian topslide would have involved some irreversible butchery to the topslide, I decided that I would add slots to the original cross slide instead.
