The intermediate shaft, and behind it the input shaft, have been installed. Apart from absolute cleanliness, great care is required when fitting the shafts to ensure the ball race bearings on each end are not left trapped with any axial loads, as rough running and a shortened lifespan will be the result. Red enamel engine paint has been used for the casting interior which gives a tough durable finish resistent to oil.
