Our latest free plan originally appeared in issue 8 of Model Engineers' Workshop, December 1991/January 1992. This design by Derek winks was described as 'unique' at the time, and though is is possible to purchase combined magnifier/hammers they seem to lack the elegance of this design.
The purpose of the hammer is to allow a centre opunch to be accurately aligned with marking out and then struck without the user needing to put down and pick up different tools.
In 2014 MEW featured a very nice example by Derek Spedding which has been used to illustrate this article. Unusually for MEW this plan has the text on it, so you don't need to refer to a back issue to get all the details.
Or download the plans as A4 pages to be taped together:
With thanks tio Nick Farr for scanning these plans and Derek Spedding for his fine workmanship.
