I served an engineering apprenticeship with H W Ward & Co.Ltd, makers of capstan and combination turret lathes. After four years on the fitting and assembly departments - my skin did not stand up to the ravages of the 1950s coolants and so I was mainly on 'dry' work - I then went 'out' into various industries as fitter/machinist before being employed in a technical background position as technical correspondent, patternmaker, designer, tracer, etc., with a famous Birmingham model engineer suppliers until redundancy at the end of year 2000. A number of items by me have been published in the model engineering press in the forty one years I have been in this great hobby.

I have considerable knowledge of our hobby amassed over the thirty years I worked with that famous suppliers. I will be pleased to help anyone if I can. Contact me via editor ME&MEW if not available by other means.
