I'm a keen modeller having flown RC planes for over 30 yrs. I have had a long standing interest in live steam and model engineering and plan to build a 1/3 scale Foster traction engine to Roy Mosley's design. Meanwhile I am teaching myself and have done three quarters of a Kennet cutter & tool grinder, started a Stuart mill engine (small one) and more recently taken on the FireFly 46 having read JasonB's excellent blog on the engine construction. My aim here is to finish the engine and fly it combining both hobbies in one. The additional skills learned will go towards completing the other projects in the pipeline and eventually the Foster.
Skill level in the model engineering workshop is very basic - I have no background in the subject so am teaching myself. Whilst this is very rewarding when things go well, it is also very frustrating when you don't know what you should be doing or how to solve a particular problem. U-Tube can be helpful but you don't really know if the person who uploaded the video really knew what they were doing any more than you do! Forums are often a better source of info and inspiration hence why I'm here!
Regards, Nick
