I am a Mechanical Engineer with a strong interest in steam power. In the 70's I did the engineering/design of several full size turbines/motors including organic fluid turbines, steam turbines, steam helical screw motors, and a steam vane motor. These were used to power cars and boats. My last project included the engineering/design of all the components of a condensing 8 HP steam power system for a sail boat. I have a Unimat 3 lathe that I used to make a tangential flow impulse steam turbine and a double acting V-twin oscillating steam engine. I have a Stuart twin drum boiler I use for steaming these models and a Stuart 504 boiler I used with a Stuart Sirius steam engine. I am now retired and planning on starting a new steam project. My interest is more in the engineering/design than in machining. I was able to test the actual performance of my model turbine. I would like to do the same for a steam engine.
