A very Amateur wanna-be model engineer, with no practical hands on experience! How's that for a start!
I'm an accountant by trade (though always employed in Metal bashing companies), I have had a go at backyard forging and heat treating and have made a few usable field knives; and my hobby for the last 15 years has been woodturning, but respiratory problems associated with the dust has forced a change of lathe and of hobby.
I've always admired the remarkable engineering involved in producing live steam engines, and now that retirement is within view would like to learn working with a lathe and mill and hopefully one day produce a working steam engine of my own. Its going to be a long learning process, but one that I'm very keen on embarking upon.
Having sold my lathe and other woodworking kit, I have a budget of £1,000 to get me started, so now the fun begins!
Best Wishes,
Frank
