3293 forum posts 112 photos | Am I right thinking this little anvil (if it is an anvil) is for jewellery-making, clock-making or similar? ' All faces except the semi-circular groove that surrounds it, are ground. The higher bick is ground flat continuing the flat top, and has an 1/8" hole drilled vertically though it. The base is drilled up into the body, and tapped 5/16" X 18tpi; presumably to allow fitting it to a suitable stand, vice-block or bench. I can't identify if BSW or UNC (same pitch), testing by screws. Apart from the thread, measuring it to ascertain if of inch or metric sizes, is inconclusive It holds no maker's names or marks. Overall length X height, about 4.5 X 1.5" . . I forget when and where I came by it, probably in a collection of old tools I'd bought somewhere, or been given lest they be useful. |

3293 forum posts 112 photos | Thank you for that! I had guessed correctly. I've no use for it but I do have a friend who makes jewellery, as a hobby, so have promised it to him but wanted to verify what I had, first. I've now passed to him, that photo of mine and the Selva reference. I spent an hour this evening designing a box for it, using plywood offcuts rooted out of the corners of the workshop. |
