I'm asking if a t51 qctp will fit a 4.5" Boxford model A.

I'm sure some of you will know. The T51 is advertised as 125mm min center height, where as a T31? Is 112mm which is the max height but has a smaller tool holder. My 4.5 mm Boxford is obviously 112mm centre height, but I would like to have the ability to put bigger tools in, I know I could be above centre but can always mill some off the bottom of the tool. Thanks for looking

I use T51 holders on my nine inch (4.5 inch centre height) Hercus. The gaps in the holders are 16 mm but the largest practical size for a tool is around 12 mm (insert or cutting edge height). The measurement you need to consider is the centre height from the top of the topslide. I thing this is pretty common top most South Bend clones, including Boxford. The Hercus measures 20mm.

Thanks Tony, I get most of your post, however the 20mm you mention, I can't figure where this is. 20mm height to the top of the compound slide from the cross slide?. Regards Rob

The 20 MM is from the top of the compound slide ie the surface where the toolpost is mounted.
