My 3/2 inch Doris black five was loosing steam or some water from the steam valves on the backhead. I decided I would replace them with some new including the whistle valve.I didn't realise that the blower valve had the blower tube soldered to it. I have tried to locate the fitting on the inner tube plate without success so must assume I may need to remove the smoke box to sort this out. the blower pipe inside the smokebox does not appear to be loose although its virtually impossible to see the location on the tube plate with the main steam pipes in the way. I would be grateful if there are some members who could help me with this. Chris Sheward

Have you looked at the drawings in ME vol 99, No2479 Nov 25 1948. It shows 4 stays across the top of the tubes with the right hand one being hollow. It is threaded both ends 3/16 x40 going into a 5/16 x 40 bush which fits tapped holes in the plates both ends. The stays are also threaded and bushed but might have been caulked with solder or not used bushes as in smaller boilers.
