Advice on piping up to a 5"G steam locomotive whistle

| 449 forum posts 72 photos | Hi - I need to work out the most practical way of running a length of 1/8" dia copper pipe from the steam header mounted at the top of the boiler on my 5"G locomotive to a 1/2" diameter brass whistle mounted under the RH running board. Aesthetically, the best solution would be to take it down the side of the backhead and then under the footplate to emerge through a hole in the drag-box and then passing upwards to meet up with the running board. The problem as I see it is that this would allow water to collect in the lower portion of the pipe run without any means of draining away. Can anyone offer any words of wisdom here? |

 1078 forum posts | I should imagine the water will be gone within a fraction of a second of hitting the valve. As long as you have a slight inclination to the whistle itself to facilitate draining I think it would be ok? Mine clears fairly rapidly with a few horizontal sections, albeit no u-bends. |
