Colchester Student rear tool post adapter

13 forum posts 2 photos	Hi, All, I have a rear tool post for my student but do not have the T slotted adapter plate that allows it to be bolted to the carriage. Can anybody help with either the plate or a work around. Many thanks.

1186 forum posts 11 photos	Make one. A isometric general layout drawing will be in the manual for the machine. If you join the Colchester lathes io group, there is a dimensioned drawing of a Chipmaster one in the files section. You know the width of the cross-slide, the spacing and thread of the holes to secure the plate to the cross slide (so you know the counterbore needed in the plate). You know the diameter of the T-bolts from the holes in the toolpost. Use those dimensions and scale any missing dimensions from the manual diagram. Put the toolpost on the cross-slide with a tool in it and work out how thick the plate needs to be to bring it to centre height. You could fabricate it from cold-rolled plate, bolted together using countersunk screws if you did not want to machine or weld one.

5563 forum posts 322 photos	Is there a particular reason to want ti use one? I'd have thought the a Student would be pretty good for parting with a tool in the front holder, especially using an insert-tip tool.
