Long Vernier Caliper

The workshop was quite fun with the line shafting in motion driving some machines. A very long wooden box with a 12ft vernier caliper caught my eye which consisted of a very substantial beam which suggested that the item to be measured was brought to the caliper, it also appeared that the beam might be supported on its Airey Points or whichever point are most appropriate for this application. I wonder when it was last calibrated? Mike |

When K J Cook left Swindon and went to Doncaster, he solved the problem of the inside Big End on the V2s, by converting to the Swindon design, and introducing optical alignment for vastly improved performance. Probably few have ever seen a workshop powered by lineshafting! Howard |

Howard My first job was in such a shop, down the righthand side there were 3 lathes, a mill and a vertical slotter all driven off a line shaft H Edited By Harry Wilkes on 11/01/2020 21:18:48 |
