Hollow Stay on a 5" Tich

Hi All a question on a 5" Tich the boiler drawing calls for a hollow stay why because fumes from the smoke box to the front boiler plate ! or do i need a hollow stay.

Maybe for 'blower'? This is its' purpose on smaller versions of Tich. If so it will have a matching control valve on the back-head and a tube in the smokebox to the blower itself.
