Looking for collets, in particular 8mm hexagon would be very useful

![]() 39 forum posts 9 photos | I am rebuilding an Acorn Tools capstan lathe because I need to make some fitted bolts for a Loco Project. In particular I need an 8mm hexagon collet. The collet size is 17.38mm OD over the body, 12mm ID. Total length is 60mm and the threaded portion is 14.1mm long, 16.32 OD over the thread which is a 1mm pitch. I have three collets which fit the lathe:- 15/32" size which is marked Hardinge and the markings 3AS. 3/32" and 1/4" sizes which are marked IME The 15/32" size would accomodate a sleeve to take the 8mm hexagon material but getting the runout up to reasonable accuracy would be a challenge! I think it might be better to make one from scratch using the rotary broach technique to form the hexagon. Has anyone got some spare collets of the above size that they would part with for a reasonable sum? I also have some collets spare which are surplus to my requirements and could go to a good home for a modest sum. They are 20mm OD, 14.75ID, 79.37mm overall length, thread pitch is 2mm on a 19.13mm diameter. Some of them are marked with the double CC mark for Crawford and the 260 marking for the type. |
