A man after my own heart

![]() 7881 forum posts 397 photos | Just been reading the One Man and his Lathe story by Trevor Winter about his Zyto in issue 256 and loving it. I;ve no interest in Zyto lathes myself but the ingenuity of using wind-up gramophone gears to mod the carriage travel mechanism is a classic. Almost as good as using old hand-powered drill bevel gears to get a bit more force with less effort on the tailstock. I know Trevor did a lot of these mods 60 odd years ago when he first bought the lathe and in those days there was little choice except to DIY. But it makes a refreshing change from today's "first buy this accessory then buy that one" ethos. Great stuff! |
