![]() 1101 forum posts 3 photos | I have been given an 00 omnimill, there is a universal milling attachment which bolts to the main column and driven by the horizontal spindle, part of the drive is missing, does anyone know if the drive is via the 3 MT in the spindle or by the slot across the end of the horizontal spindle, the horizontal spindle milling arbour is driven by both the taper and the slot. The slotting attachment appears to be from a later machine as the drive appears to suit a 30 international spindle which according to the Lathes website was fitted on very late machines.so I have two heads to modify and would like to get it correct. |

You can fit a drawbar if it needs more positive grip but not having the slot drive gives a safety margin if it jams or takes too heavy a cut (at some risk to the taper). I think Centecs come in both sizes of taper too. |

707 forum posts 1 photos | I have taken a quick picture of mine. You will see the drive dog at the back (it is the same on the slotting head). It locates in the horizontal drive slot. If yours is significantly different, take a picture and post it so we can advise if you want. Mark |

2 forum posts | I am restoring an omnimill, and have reached the point of fitting the horizontal arbour into the spindle (MT3). The taper appears to bottom out in the spindle before the flats on the arbour engage in the slots, maybe around 0.25 engagement of the flats in the slot. Is this how it is supposed to be? there are witness marks on the taper which suggest that it has been like this for a long time, but sizewise the flats should fit in the slot any help much appreciated trevor |
