68 forum posts | When I had my old paddle steamer, "Vexem", it came with a non-original Allen single cylinder steam engine. not of any great age, it was clearly a high speed engine, vertical, maybe 6x8, but most remarkable was the reversing gear. Basically there wasn't any! Just a lever which moved the steam chest up and down very quickly. This led us to wonder if this engine was from perhaps a set of sheet rolls from a boiler makers' factory. |
