2 forum posts | Hi I have just bought a 60% complete GWR 14xx - 5 inch gauge loco but have no background in engineering at all. The gentleman I bought it off said I would not need anything other than a set of BA Spanners to assemble the remaining 40% of the kit but I want to make sure I haven't bitten off more than I can chew.

90 forum posts | That sounds like one of the old Modelworks kits then (or one of the former names of the same company).. I would suggest getting in contact with your nearest club and seeking advice from more experienced model engineers.. these kits often require a substantial amount of "fettling" to get to work. 2 forum posts | Hi Micheal, How did you get on with your 14xx? I have a 57XX kit that seems like t was the sweepings of the Modelworks benches before they finally closed. I'd love to learn about the valve setting procedure please. I've got my loco running on air but it's a bit rough. I'm in touch with LA Services who have the intellectual property and will hopefully sell me the bits that are missing from my "kit" the most important of which is the Manual which they are printing at present. Look forward to sharing experiences. Best regards Patrick |

19 forum posts 26 photos | Hi Patrick, Yes I'd also like to know how Michael got on as I've just bought a 14xx MW kit that's mostly in bits so I could do with some paperwork! I have a 57xx but not an LBSC home build rather than the MW one. Lee |
