You will have to unscrew something to find out whether the threads are bsw or bsf.

There’s a right mix on the machine Adam as a single thread form doesn’t fit all requirements.
I know there’s a lot of BSW, and as Old Mart says there’s also some BSF.
I wouldn’t be surprised to find some BSC in there as well.
The only simple way of knowing is to try and tap or a known bolt or to measure the bolt. 
Do you possess a thread gauge to get some TPI measurements?

The OD of the bolt is hopefully going to be very near the major diameter.

That's a lovely looking lathe! my old Sable is resplendent in shoddy old silver hammerite maybe one day I'll treat it to a spruce up.
