2878 forum posts 248 photos | Rightly or wrongly, I bought a set of thread chasers from Tracy Tools and cut all my threads where possible with a chaser. These give the correct form (Bottom and crest radius, thread angle etc). When faced with a non standard thread where the gears are an approximation, I cut the thread with a single point tool, then move the tool sideways a few thou to make the thread a bit 'sloppy'. This is not a 'precision' fit, but then look at most nuts and bolts and they aren't either !! |
