Is this chuck too big/heavy?

| 3630 forum posts 128 photos | FatWelshBoy Thats a lovely picture of the two lightweight PB chucks. The jaw proportions are very much the same as my 8" lightweight. Comparing them with the brochure picture of the new 160 mm four jaw in your earlier post shows the jaws to be seriously smaller on the older chucks which, as Jason says, makes a huge difference on tricky jobs. The older style chucks are vastly more suitable for folk like us. It might be expected that the smaller jaws and screws would have less gripping power but I've never found it a problem despite my S&B 1024 being a considerably heftier machine than most folk have. The heftiness has, on occasions, been exploited with serious cuts on moderately optimistic work. Which didn't come loose. I'm not sure that I ever want to tackle a job that needs the extra holding power of my heavy duty one! Clive |
