@ Ivy ... I meant no offence or ingratitude by mentioning that the Boxford was sold !

... Just a simple statement of what I found

If you are confident that he is a bad ‘un ... why stop trying to help ?

No offence taken Michael.

Although I get the feeling some think I have an ulterior motive, or am slating a genuine seller.

Look at the account, it was at the time of writing one day old, there were no feedbacks as a seller and there are still none. He states in the description he won't accept paypal. A "sold" item is not a delivered/received item. I reckon he made nearly £4000 yesterday if he gets paid by all four buyers.

I got caught on his last account, and he is a convincing con man. (I know I was stupid).

I will leave it there and hope no one here gets caught after this.

21/09/2020 20:08:59

OK, he will not take paypal, and the feedbacks are him buying.

Register an account, buy a few 99p items to get some feedback and then your set to go.

I have nothing to gain giving this info, only trying to save others losing out.

As I said before check back in a few days, the account will be gone. Put all his items in your watch list and see.

I am going to stop trying to help now.

Sold for £380

MichaelG.

Yes, and the Super 7, and the welder. look back in a few days, that one day old account will be deleted.

Sadly the chances of seeing the goods are zero.

I am only trying to stop anyone getting burnt as I have been.

21/09/2020 11:53:45

This Boxford lathe item number 383731192237. Look at other items as well.

When the complaints start ebay will remove the account and he wll start again with another account.

21/09/2020 11:06:06

Pass the word around and please move to the appropriate page if needed.

There is a scammer on ebay "selling" machine tools. The listings look very convincing, but trust me it's a scam. He always wants payment by BACS and is always located in the north of Scotland.

He offers cash on collection as well to make it more convincing but the chances of being in the same area are pretty remote.

There was someone doing this on homeworkshop I think.

Thread: Modern reversing switch

What you need is a mandrel handle to ease threading.

Haha, talk about being blinded by the obvious. Thank you for the best solution.

It's the "interesting" nature of wiring it up that worried me. If you get one will you let us know how fitting it goes please?

11/05/2020 10:42:27

What's the collective thoughts on using a switch from ARC Eurotrade C6 lathe?

It is listed in spare parts for the C6 lathe but on the phone he would not commit to it's suitability, although it looks like a drum switch to me. (cannot paste the link for some reason) I could use an additional NRV.

I will just say it's for a Brooke Compton motor as fitted to a Myford ML10, split phase, i.e. no capacitor.

Thanks for reading again.

Hi

What is this for, is it a DC motor as found on many hobby lathes or for an AC setup. A lot of the lathes/mills have a separate reversing switch and NVR switch. The interlocks and one pole of the reversing switch are frequently wired in series with the hold on coil of the NVR and when the reverse switch is operated and passes through the off position the circuit is opened and the NVR will trip, as will any open interlock switch.

So it would be very helpful to know what you are intending to use the setup for, a new build or an existing piece of machinery. Without any information any suggestions will be purely guesswork unless anyone knows more.

Secondly if you want help with the wiring etc. it would be good to know roughly where you are, nearest town is fine, so that should there be someone locally they might be able to drop in and advise/help.

Martin

I would like to replace the Dewhurst on my Myford ML10 to allow easy threading (I am no way an expert here).

I am in North Devon.

I have to go offline now, I will come back tomorrow.

Thanks all.

Have you considered separating the functions of fwd/rev and NVR? It would probably be an easier solution otherwise costs could get too excessive as you could end up going for something industrial as opposed to hobby cost.

Rockford Systems

Martin C

That would do it if the combined ones are not available any where.

But again my wiring ability is hopeless, I would need simple step by step instructions. Just as well we this forum.

Sillyoldduffer,

I knew about bumping, but not tilting. Thank you.

Martin Cargil,

That may be the way forward, although I would need some help with the wiring. I don't trust myself here.

AdrianR,

I will bear that in mind.

Martin Connelly,

They are no longer available.

Sorry

Lost me there!!!

Does anyone know of a UK source for modern reversing switches, the sort with a built in NRV.

Chester used to sell them apparently but they are no longer listed on the website.

Wiring instructions would be helpful too.

I am always so pleasantly surprised at the great help and brains on this site, so someone will come up with some thing I'm sure.

Thanks for reading.

Thread: Come on you clever people

A lightening detector it is then.

Thank you for all the contributions, I knew some body here would know.

I did read the company website "about us" page but the corporate, management speak about power transmission and network solutions said a lot about nothing really. I guess I am not their target audience though.

Thanks again, especially Neil.

Ivy.

P.S. I have asked a lot of people I have met walking here and the usual response is "dunno mate".

Does nobody have an enquiring mind any more?

I knew I had come to right place.

I will continue reading tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, keep them coming.

I'm only guessing but could it be something to do with the now stood down R.O.C, maybe some sort of fallout sampling and transmission gear?
Mark P.

I'm sorry I don't know what R.O.C. is.

It's a top-secret installation to extract energy from moonbeams.

Just what I thought.

Or maybe lightning.

This has been suggested to me once before.

As we all know model engineers are the cleverest people around, so....

Can some body tell me what this is?

It has no bearing on a mobile phone signal. It is in the middle of a sizeable forestry plantation in rural Devon, and has been there for donkeys years, some locals said 40 years or more.

I emailed the company, but did not get so much as an acknowledgement. (How rude)

Yours curious and thank you,

Thread: Home workshop site down?

Reset the router and all is working again.

Thanks to all that replied to my query.

Hi Ivy,

My Linux Mint 17.3 +Firefox 45.0 is fine. I assume you can get to other sites (to post on ME), so is the URL for Homeworkshop.org OK?

I have tried Linux/Firefox, Linux/Opera and now Windows 8.1 on a tablet and all I get is the spinning circle that times out after a couple of minutes.

I can get any other site I try no problems, cookies cleared, reset Firefox, switched off and rebooted and still nothing. Is it possible that the router could be the trouble, like a setting has changed, I am clutching at straws now.

I am not very computer literate unfortunately and have exhausted my abilities, I will have to ask for outside help on this one.

Thanks for helping me.
