Thread: How did you ..................... Job back ground
13/07/2012 11:26:26

I guess I too was born like it.

Some of the first books I remember reading were Texts on

Metallurgy and Martin_Caidin’s Cyborg ( special permission from library for under 11’s)..

Then secondary school.. Introduced to the term ENGINEER as apposed to mechanic or fireman or stoker ( and now Plummer!)

From eleven that was me..only question was electronic/chemical/mechanical/biomechanical.. Much to the dismay of my chemistry teacher (retired industrial chemist).

Even at university I tried to keep my options open taking as much of the medical lectures that fit in the timetable with the Electronic engineering.

Worked for 6 years in UK defense. (cold war ends)

Worked for 4 years of UK firm .lowpower..low cost..low pay.

Now self employed and mostly free to do what interests me..got involved in industrial machine tools and controls and still learning machining esp. hobby version.

Knew a block once.. claimed to have been test pilot for many years( "every thing up to jet power" )..he told a tale from a reunion..

Harrier pilot banging on about how great VTOL is...Mmm says this little guy have you got your flights?

takes him in the back of a Ligthning trainer... takes off .. rotates and kicks in reheat...NOW THATS VERTICLE TAKEOFF!

Harrrier pilot apperntly went white...then green

To the optimist, the glass is half-full. To the pessimist, the glass is half-empty. To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Two engineering students were biking across a university campus when one said, "Where did you get such a great bike?" The second engineer replied, "Well, I was walking along yesterday, minding my own business, when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike, threw it to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, "Take what you want." The first engineer nodded approvingly and said, "Good choice: The clothes probably wouldn't have fit you anyway."

Got a WARD at work.

gap bed mc "dovetails" are square section about 30 mm AC front and back <>-----<> like

OK so 12 " between edges 6" center height (with out gap!) 50 " between centers.

never seen missing gap bit

saddle is about 12" in Z and 28 " wide 10" throw in X...can still turn to 2 though over that length ( only use it for roughing out wink ) and making liners..

built 1924...

the thing is built like a brick privvy I guess if its gonna warp it has now.

Sorry my mistake.

G31 is g-code

X27.1 is i/o bit the high speed input it is mapped to [FANUC]

basicaly a switch is operated when TOOL TIP reaches predifined ref point

the motion of axes stops (early) and postion can be read and used to calculate offset for tool which is written into offset data directly.

again sorry for causing any confusion. and tardy reply..been AFK

ptfe yeah thread tape...white slippery stuff used on plumbing compression joints

Sorry to hear that." G27...linear interpolate until SKIP"

without those you cant simply add Reni*****shaw like tool offset and geometry setting macros to your machine...shame

How does your toolsetter communicate?

have seen RFID chips in toolholders with tool data stored but that's more for your 30 plus caroucels

Thread: How small???

I think smallist CNC lathe is of the order of 1/2" loa.

I have seen model train (OO GUAGE?) 9 MM TRACK with working train layout setup on table in one of carriages...seperate control from "big" train...

smallest working stiring order of mm across..Flyshown for scale..can't find link at the mo.

Reminds me of visiting airshow with customer once..."smallest twist drill in the world"..my cutomer dops card on desk and says "sample me"...week later we post drill back with hole down it !

Hi.

Does your control do g27 ?

Does it do macro B?

and do the parameters /offsets live in the usal places ?

If so you could make fit simple tool probe. and use a macro to probe tool and auto set offsets ( at least for hobbi use). pm me if intrested and will dig out the guts of the macro.

BTW seawater is quoted as 1 to 2 mg/tonne GOLD.......

25/06/2012 18:03:07

Mr Alush-Jaggs... whole heartedly agree.

Futher a report I once read states the "dust" swept up at roadside in cities now contains more platignum than the original ore!.

There will come a time when landfill constitues the richest mines on the planet....

Thread: Casting aluminium without a furnace?

Well not my product but my guess is the mould isolates the shot metal and allows all the energy to heat the metal as opposed to the reflected energy producing standing wave E (electric) fields and thus ionisating the air.( might even be ionisation due to heating of the air not certain but again no standing waves...).... 'sides my microwave already "allows" certain metal parts ok ..

Read there website It might explain..no connection etc.

25/06/2012 12:36:59

Metal Clay even the bronze /copper stuff is as said ferociously expensive...esp. the non precious stuff( vis metal price)..But might fill a gap( no pun intended).

what about "micro foundary"... at least one system offered using domestic microwave oven. works for brass and ali... working on stell apperntly.

Sorry for spelling in a rush.

.".but I do know soft stuff cloggs wheels of all types"

soft like al, bronze ,copper,.pencils ....sadly the "tools only " wheels some times get used for deburring/knotching bar......now ali realy clogs the wheel.EVEN GREEN WHEELS .---sighs---

But imagine dressing 100 thou in 2 thou steps off a 10" thick centerless grinder wheel ! 'cos its loaded up with bronze...at least that was in the line of duty...the" kids" dont mess with the big wheels...

19/06/2012 18:20:07

John.. I suspect its more a matter of using (abusing) diamond wheel for soft stuff , not the physical chemistry of diamond and steel. ( plenty of diamond whet stones in use and diamond dressers brazed/soldered into steel holders.).

Will ask a metalagist friend...but I do know soft stuff cloggs wheels of all types...not fun on 36" by 10" wheels I can tell you.

"2 the table x slides must be parallel wrt the y axis slides"

perpendicular is more traditional wink

Though I have seen CNC mills based on "Hexapod" ...but these rely on machine computing to allow orthogonal input...not really mill ..more robot arm with mill spindle end effectors...
