Thread: 3 phase wiring anyone ?. |
20/10/2013 11:50:25 |
Err..In the above photos it appears that there is a cable with a plug ON BOTH ENDS...I hope not. In any case I would suggest for this application obtain suitable plug to fit the transwave and fixed wire to the grinder..thus any peculiarities required ( converters are there own beast) are kept with that machine. Converters if I remember supply two phases from live and fudge the third phase with a capacitor also from live..and with "luck" the motor can be made spin..as you can tell I am not a fan |

When you see the price of bearings you might have doubt about the ones " built in" in first place |

Thread: Bellows versus shutter |
17/10/2013 13:18:16 |
Added bonus..easily moved to allow cleaning if required... Many auto matics used something like "tank" track to cover ways again just liftup and clean IF required..usually worked so well but brass swarf gets every where |
Thread: cutting a scroll inside a bush |

just like you say .. if deep then probably Screwcut . if very shallow( and left hand)..done by rapid withdrawal without lifting tool off work

Thread: drill size for tapping threads... |
15/10/2013 22:49:22 |
John If I understand your question. using "oversize" drills when tapping. the effect is to reduce the thread depth cut in the side of the hole . This makes tapping easier but weakens the joint similarly making the "bolt" under size ===easier on die but weaker this can be offset to a degree by using longer engagement.. depending on the material, using less engagement can be a tradeoff..tougher material.=same strength for the reduced engagement

Thread: Can soluble cutting oil damage equipment? |
15/10/2013 15:39:19 |
Damage equipment? Had some that took the paint off the inside of the cncs...came up all bright and shiny...great coolant.. stung like h**l in cuts..smelt of chipfat..bio eco watsit..made from rapeseed oil... Ingeneral Yeah . It all stains. If in places it pools .the rest dries to oily film. You think this is foul..try it a grinding machine mix..mostly water...evil honk. ..forms a crust that looka one step away from evolving legs |
Thread: Round holes - is it possibl e ? |
15/10/2013 15:22:33 |
Reg. Don't take madmike s comments wrong . He sort of echoed my thoughts ...you didn't explain to us you had supplied drawing and model to the firm in your earlier posts..I did wonder how you tasked them..I when I did that sort of thing would ( and have) draw the thing up and get your approval before chopping metal.. That said what should have been a simple operation looks mullered beyond belief or at least expectation Please don't be offended I feel none was meant. |
Thread: Drawing Andrews Worm Wheel |
15/10/2013 10:16:20 |
My guess .the original was filed to fit and run for polish..tight wears and clearance doesn't matter..this is why things used to be "run in".. The engineering/design fascinates me. But it might be the curves and surfaces "generated" by the run -in meshing set differ from our ideal in subtle ways ... ... |

Thread: Three JAW CHUCKs |
15/10/2013 08:45:56 |
Hear Hear. Btw just how round is the stock anyway. In industry rechucking is avoided at all costs ( yes for more than one reason) All features required to be concentric are turned at one sitting. . Never seen work between centres but that is the gold standard on re sitting accurately. But does it grip? Does it rock? Will it pumpkin seed out? These are important SAFETY issues. And I will leave you with that |

Freezer didn't help with pelathane |
14/10/2013 21:02:52 |
Well we used to do about 500 a month ..we?used carbide..hi rake like you would for ali..tried the stanly knife thing..mount blade segment so as to achive a shaving cut ..I used 10 degrees to vertical snap blade to 5 mm wide and clamp.. Agin horrid...great on delrin and nylon , not bad on pvdf but no chance on pelathane..any way hi rake ..lots of coolant or air blast..to stear swarf..comes off as one piece. .horrid... and threading it was misery. .. |

Used to turn "pelathane"..soft and bendy could tie 1/4"dia rod in a knot...turned 6.3 to 2 .00 +/- .05 mm over 100 mm with 1.2 mm hole down the lot....horrid. |
Thread: Round holes - is it possibl e ? |
14/10/2013 20:01:15 |
Yes MichaelG..not certain if the development of the hole would be a conic section but yes .. projected parallel to the axis of a circular hole , the hole will in deed be circular... (circular argument ![]() |
