Thread: Very old back issue question |

When at a boarding high school many years ago (late 1960's) I bought a rough hessian bound volume of 6 months worth of Model Engineer (from the 1930s I seem to recall) at a school fete. I started in my spare time after school to build a two cylinder steam engine powered by a flash steam boiler to fit in a hydroplane style plywood boat. All I managed to complete was the crankshaft which has been carefully packed in oil paper in a small wood box ever since. The shaft is 180 degrees opposed twin cylinder with two main ball races bearings on the outer and an internal main bearing (white metal shells I think). Oil galleys were drilled and plugged being fed from the centre main to the two cranks. I recall that the engine had an oil pump and water pump. The boiler comprised two coils of tube with fire down both.
In my many moves during my working career the old collection has disappeared.
If any body can track down and scan the articles for me I'd like to finish it on the little taiwanese lathe my father in law so kindly gave to me some years ago in my approaching retirement.
Is there by any chance a digital index of ME dating that far back so that I could find the article to help the search.
Kind regards to all
