Anyone contemplating making a model of a Leader should think very carefully before attempting to use sleeve valves and thus not repeat "Bullied's Folly" Folly because all the Southern Railway wanted him to do design and produce a mixed traffic tank engine to replace the old and underpowered M7 0-4-4 locos. instead he went his own way and produced cash eating, but never the less interesting, monster
Eric Trouble is unless someone thinks outside of the box progress is nil , imagine what we might have had if this had worked - anyone remember the ACE2000 (American Coal Enterprise) plans back in the 1980's they even went as far as modifying Ross Rowland's C&O 4-8-4 to get some data together |
Thread: Traction engine lamps |

Hello Jason Do you know which magazines numbers these are in. Mike H I have looked at the ones available for Mamod engines, how ever these are in fact from the roadsters and don't look right being more of a carriage lamp as used on stage coaches and the earliest cars. |

Can someone help me I am looking for a drawing or general information on a basic traction engine lamp for a rebuild of a Wilesco / Mamod I am working on with a view to creating a lost wax brass casting. |

Still slowly working on my traction engine project, where can I obtain small size pipe fittings and tube who is the best suppler to use and what size would have been used on Little Jen. Many thanks for any help forthcoming. Edited By John Besley on 01/11/2013 08:51:19 |

"If you are looking for something more realistic than Little Ben you may instead want to take a look at the 3/4" scale Modular published in ME during 1981 and 1982 - alternate Issues from 3651 to 3677 Clive" I was looking for something simple to build as a start off point, while I have been making parts and pattrens for 16mm & 7/8th garden railways for some 18 / 20 years I dont have a milling machine, relying on a small Inca lathe from Axminster Tools and a Pillar drill, I have modifed Mamods in the past and built Roundhouse Loco kits of a "Lady Anne" With a tracton engine being self contained (I dont need a garden railway to run it) I wanted to build something that I could utilise a certain number of off the shelf parts like Mamod wheels as I have plenty spare. does Modular fit this criteria? |

I have tried sending an email to the address as shown in the Little Ben article with it bouncing back [email protected] does anyone out there have a copy of the plans? |

Hello does anyone know why the postings on this topic are running right across the page behind the side bar advert on this page - can this be changed or the sidebar turned off as it cuts across the post making it impossable to read the thread.

Thread: Live Steam Big Boy locomotive |

The Dodwells Big Boy went to a Garden centre in Bournmouth? unfortunatly the council turned down the planning so the whole lot was sold finaly shipped out to Australia, I think John Southern kept one of the D&RW K37's as at one time he had 2 of them, the sight and sound of these running on 7.1/4" was out of this world, way back in the early 70's before the trees grew up to high you lost all sense of direrction on the line... brillant, later on it got more commercilised and lost the magic, happy days, the whole site is now a holiday site i belive havent looked in for years |

Thread: Mamod Traction Engine |
29/06/2013 06:25:14 |
I had thought of that since the last post as the whistle is "huge" this could be saved for some other project - any idea what the thread size is that mamod use? |
28/06/2013 22:30:42 |
Ok that interetsing, will have to investigate further, wondering about a new boiler but will see what it looks like when I strip the engine down in a week or two. |
28/06/2013 06:07:11 |
I have started to rebuild / modify a second hand TE1A Mamod Traction Engine, there are a couple of questions I hope someone can help with. 1. What is the thread size for the water level drain plug as this needs the thread cleaning 2. Are the boilers silversoldered - I would hope so just wanted to check as I want to add a turret for a presser gauge |
