Am I going over the top fitting a blower to the vertical boiler I am building? I don't recall ever seeing one elsewhere or on plans.

I have looked through all of my suppliers' catalogues but, surprisingly, no trace. Easy to make though.

Thanks for that Speedy. I did find an on line deal that looked as if two single tickets would reduce the cost to just over £50 but the moron at Boston flatly denied that it was possible even though I produced a computer printout with the details...she just thrust it back at me with a contemptuous snarl. Serious attitude problem with rail staff it would appear from the stories one hears and reads about and experiences. A drive to Peterborough is not on the cards for me at the moment but it would cut the cost to about £30.

Just got back from Boston ticket office where as anticipated I received no satisfaction or advice other than take it or leave it at £71.40. Not impressed. Will not be going. Driving is not an option (but I am not banned!).

I really fancy a trip to this one but it will cost me the thick end of £100 (from Boston) just to get to the door from what I can see online. Just off to the station to interrogate the ticket office on best value but not expecting much satisfaction. My cousin who lives in Milton Keynes can get there and back for £13.

Whilst on the subject of Scrader valves, what is the internal thread that takes the valve insert?

I had a go at it this morning, starting with what I consider to be the least innocuous, meths, and it worked very well as far as I can see. I am not getting the "change batteries" screen any more. Monitoring continues. Thank you all for your advice.

Went to take a picture today and found that the Lithium AA cells in the camera had leaked. What can be used to neutralise the battery fluid and prevent further damage and corrosion. I think that anything water soluble will damage the circuitry and I am tempted to try a blast with an aerosol brake or carburettor cleaner. Any other ideas gents?

With things as they are vis a vis a depleted service from the police I am thinking of beefing up household/workshop security. I have the standard Chubb/multipoint locks/alarms fitted but CCTV systems look to be at a reasonable price these days and might provide good deterrence.

My problem is that I haven't got a clue about what features and specifications I should be looking for.

Any recommendations?

Thank you Dave. That is the sort of information that I need. I am quite happy about the push fit seal but possible degradation of the body is an obvious concern. I have been told that all metal versions are available which should solve that problem and I hope to discover where I can get them tomorrow. The link that you posted is a really useful one.

Thank you for your interest David. The vapour pressure of butane at 25 degC is only about 35psi. The controller is rated at 10 bar so there is a pretty significant safety margin.

I have had a look at the Ebay item you mentioned but that is for a full scale appliance. What I need are gas controls for small scale .....typically 10mm to the foot ....locomotives, traction engines etc. My current build is a launch with a steam/gas propulsion system. Cost is not a problem but because miniature gas controls are not generally available I invariably have to design and make my own. The controllers that I am referring to are far superior in control terms to anything that I have been able to make in the past.

Jason.....yes spot on (and a better photograph than mine). They do offer very good control as you say and seem to be very well made. The body of the controller is nylon. I seem to recall reading somewhere that the reason that some controllers fail is because of the molecular size of the substance that is to be controlled ie the smaller molecules squeeze past, but LPG gases are generally, I believe, heavier than say Helium and I don't think that this would be relevant here.
